I got to be doing something wrong.

Guys
I can hear & feel the power of the motor surge when peddling, when I quit peddling,
after about 5-6 seconds the power falls off (no peddling assist) from the motor,
when I start peddling, I again have the surge assist from the motor, is this a normal function?
I only feel this power surge when I peddle up hill and not on flat level ground.
It feels strange etc.
Pedal Assist, PAS, tries to maintain constant speed. As your grade increases the power should increase. That is your power surge.
With a 750 limit being required in most jurisdictions these days, the best way to get more climbing ability is get stonger, or lower the sprocket ratio and the speed you are climbing. The third way to climb better is lower the weight the bike is carrying uphill. 29% grade is extreme.

Mike, That is NOT my display, mine is this:
DPC18.C11
702P1V4285231,
per information on the back of the display.
I only have 5 levels of PA.

Tia,
Don

you sure you got a 29% grade thats extreme steep. here is a 18% grade I road today and took a lot of effort on my bosch.

According to the road slope calculator it gave me 29* slope,
the total distance is 6.25 miles,
starting point is at 4165' elevation (GPS reading of 41*13-32N/118*22-27W) and ending point is at 5136', (summit) (40*12-09N/118*16-22W), google earth sat view readings.
What figures do you come with? Maybe I figured it wrong, won't be the first time.

Hey Scrambler
I remember some of those roads, my GF (now better half) was from there,
she also took me on a drunk rattlesnake road, nothings but tight loops back to back, for I don't know how far, and it was steep and narrow.
Never spent much time down there,
I was a county boy.......LOL from up North about 250+ miles,
I love my pine trees and high Mtns.

I am no math wizard either. but I have done 1700 feet in 1.7 miles and most of that was 16 to 18 percent with this guy at about 20 percent.

Got it.

Lucky you!!! Your bike has two batteries.
Rome
NOT at that time, I only had 1 battery, I found out, the second battery wouldn't hold a charge and I packin that blasted thing all around, DEAD weight I didn't need......LOL.

Here is the info, find a slope calculator and enter the info and see what you come up with, total distance is 330528 feet, (6.25 miles), starting elevation was 4165 feet and ending elevation is 5136 feet elevation, a difference of 971 feet elevation.

Have fun,
Don

971 over 6 miles in not much. this is what I get after converting 6.5 miles to feet. https://www.inchcalculator.com/rise-run-percent-calculator/?uc_rise=971&uc_run=34320

Don't forget, you are trying to get a 100 pound bike over that hill. You probably get a lot closer to the top with a 35 pound bike.

Ya, you are probably right, BUT, that 35lb bike won't haul/carry what my 100lb bike will............in the pucker brush/rock piles I have around here...LOL.
I am NOT a speed racer, I am a hunter, sneak and peek and slow......

You weren't talking about riding the bike in the pucker brush, you were talking about the performance on the road.

So was the bike pulling from the good battery or the bad battery when it quit on you? And how far up the climb is it?

Could just be sag from the bad battery due to unbalanced cells.

IMHO,
I believe that the bike was using just to good battery, I tried the first time and got approximately 1/2 the distance, before I ran out of power, when I tried the next day, on the remaining battery charge, I got about 200yds farther, and I run out of power again.
Went home and charged the batteries and that is when I found out that top battery was bad, and would not charge up.
I am sure the bad battery was dragging down the good battery, as I seen goofy voltage reading on the display when using the bike etc.

I'll take voltage reading before and after the next attempt on Tuesday/Wednesday of next week.

Hey Guys
I am going to ask a dumb question, so you have been warned OK,
I have NO knowledge/experience using a Ebike,
the first 2 attempts have been using Eco1 setting,
and using the 17T, 20T and 23T gears.
Here is the gear ratios I have,
Big main peddle gear = 44T
Big gear on back sprocket =34T>30T >26T>23T>20T>17T>15T>13T>11T.

Which would be the best power setting 1 thru 5 in either the Eco or Sport settings,
should I try next?
I think I'll try 23T up thru 30T, I am not sure on the 1 thru 5 power settings.

This will be strictly peddle power, NO throttle will be used.
I want to be as easy on the battery power/use as possible,
to make the battery last as long as possible.

Your thoughts and suggestions,
Tia,
Don

If eco 1 is too weak, keep increasing the number until it works.
If none of the eco modes are strong enough, try all of the sport modes in increasing order
