how do I size a new KMC X10e chain?

I'm being pro-active and want to order a new chain for my 18' sduro 6.0 Haibike even though it's nowhere near worn out.. Specs say chain is KMC x10e... Are these chains all the same # of links? will I need to buy a chain breaking tool to remove links? Amazon says the chain is 136 links.

Count the number of links on the currently fitted chain. The new chain will likely be long, but not always. It is pretty rare to need a chain tool, so instead of a pro or even consumer grade shop tool, you might consider one that is part of a multi-tool, because it could be handy to have if you break a chain during a ride.

Oh geez I didn't think about that.. I was hoping by replacing the chain before it's worn I could avoid replacing the cassette for a long time yet.
