Good uses for walk mode

I do not remember the last time I used or needed it on my Priority Current. I remove the battery when I carry the bike up a few stairs into my home or a brew-pub platform I visit along the trail once in a while.

On the other hand, I wish I had a more user friendly walk mode on my heavier step-through Evelo Omega. As I learned early on, step through e-bike frames can be clumsy to carry. The one and only time I tried it I nearly went through the wall. (I foolishly tried it at home after assembling the bike).

My point? Variable or graduated speed walk through modes would be very useful either for steps or a situation like gromike had on the ferry. "One size fits all" might apply to certain articles of clothing, but "one speed fits all" isn't a great concept for walk mode on an e-bike.
I have a step-through and love it, but I didn't realize before I purchased it how difficult it is to carry - not just the weight, but the inherent awkwardness of the frame. I wonder if anyone has jury rigged a carrying strap attached to the pedal/motor area.

Did not want to start a new thread.
This may have been mentioned here. I did not read it all.

I have have been using walk mode while on the bike to initiate motion while in a tight space. The torque is plenty good at low speed. Even up a slight grade. It is safer than cadence sensed startup even set at lowest current input at lowest PAS setting. And the throttle is so delicate while feathering startup it can move too far too fast. After it is appropriate I release the "-" button and the PAS mode begins where I left off.
Walk mode goes 4 mph and in certain situations I use it solely to consistently move me with out the start/stop of the cadence sensed input or throttle when it is appropriate. I can only suggest to give it a try. I use it "all the time".

I will hjave to try that.....walk mode on my Cyrusher Kommoda is better described as jog mode.
agreed, the one time i tried walk mode just to try it out it would be better described as jog mode. not sure why i would ever use it. after 3 years of ownership i'm yet to encounter a time i would use it. this is on an aventon pace 500 (i think it's the original version at this point)

A lot depends on weather it is a hub or mid. With a mid-drive walk assist speed depends on the gear selection. For a hub-drive it does not matter.

As @fooferdoggie recently suggested in another thread, you can use a mid-drive's walk mode to downshift when you've accidentally stopped in way too high a gear. Just lever the rear wheel off the ground on the kickstand (if you have one), get the crank going, and shift away!

Walk mode works well when you suddenly find yourself in deep sand on a 65 lb bike
Absolutely!

Ditto for deep, loose gravel that's too rounded to ride and also hard to walk on. Plenty of both around here.

Some of the new e-bikes allow you to adjust the walk mode speed setting.

"Jog mode" can still be useful to ride the e-bike at the set speed, even if your feet are on the ground to "walk" the bike as you're seated.

A lot depends on weather,.. For a hub-drive it does not matter.

Walk mode on my hub-drive e-bike is the same speed regardless of the weather.

I don't know whether a mid-drive is more weather dependent than a hub-drive. 😂

Whether, Weather, either, ither, let's call the whole thing off.

Ah, Ella and Louis! They recorded many duets covering a significant chunk of the Great American Songbook. Top-notch musicians and arrangements all the way. The CD box set is pure gold.

Off topic. This is what I am listening to right now. It blows me away. By the way the Boom Boom Room in St. Luis streaming radio will make any work day go by 30% faster than anything else. That is what the Dr. ordered. John Williams was so good. Put this on while doing something else tedious like sorting. If you say it does not meet your standards, so be it. Who takes over the horn section in the end? But with the flute and stings all joining the trimphone in triumph. We are at a Star Wars time right now. Listening to this is comforting. End Vader! A new Hope that includes the whole thing.
