I've said that natural cycles take 1000s of years so sensing a clear change over 50 years implies to me it's not a natural cycle...it's being impacted by humans.

I know of no other factors that have impacted amphibians here as much as what I feel is climate change. It's just an observation as I thought catching salamanders was cool and would liked to have done that with my kid but he's never seen one.

slowing population growth is an effective way to reduce all the bad things destroying the planet. I’d argue the earth is over populated by our species and cannot sustain this level indefinitely.

And it’s happening. And “browning” at the same time. The “browning “ of The USA is unstoppable. Poor dumb white guys will be left in the dust.

Yes. My mother rode with her neighbors to Florida. It took 12 hours for what is normally a 2 hour drive. Bumper to bumper. Luckily I’d reserved their hotel rooms on trip.com with refundable cancellation.

If I were to live down there, I think I´d build on deep seated 20 ft. concrete pylons with 4¨ x 6¨ rafters on 12¨
centers & 3/4¨ plywood lagged down with 4¨"screws. My heart goes out to any who fled to Houston; it will
probly be next just like last time.

Actually the reality is that for the most part there is a shrinking population of white Americans due to lower birth rates while there’s a increase in other racial demographics due to influx from migration and higher birth rates amongst those ethnicities. Yet White Americans largely moved up the wealth and income ladder whilst the other ethnicities largely (except most Asians) slid further down into poverty. So in the near future there may be a majority of a mix of peoples of color, but they’ll mostly be impoverished communities still shackled to the economic disparities of the capitalist system. America may one day look like Brazil, where the fairer people live in gated communities with armed security and strong police support while the darker people live in decaying favelas scraping along. I had to hire an armed guard (off duty policeman) to tour my father’s early childhood neighborhood in Baltimore for example.

I imagine this will be the new norm along seashores of the Eastern seaboard as well. Pretty much is along the Gulf Coast except in low income areas.

Until then I’ll thoroughly enjoy my lily white privilege. After that time my Japanese American offspring will inherit our estate and thrive on. Interestingly their skin tones are whiter than me (maybe because I’m also Cherokee) and even though I’m not racist, their demographic is starkly puristic about ethnicity. I guess it comes in cycles.

I lost a lot of money from Katrina.. $1.6 Million into bankruptcy .... Have a lot of friends... This one looks like it might make a bigger mess.. My friends chose not to leave this time.. Praying for all..

Guess thats not bad for a 35 year old... Took a lot out of me to go through that.. but Still alive and kicking ..Putting my money in Lead and Brass now... and some heavy metal... Things get bad from Climate or Covid.. Just prepping myself this time..

I actually agree with to many people... cant even buy a property out of town... they left no edges to be out of town lol...

I do want to say thank you to everyone for the conversation... its been real interesting... I will go back and read anythign that was posted that I might have missed and hope all would do the same on what I posted... I am American Through and Through and enjoy a difference in opinion.. Just Dont force it on me and we will be friends.

And I also want to add that I do not intend to hurt anyones feelings on my posts.. So if I do offend I want to say now that it is nor was my intentions. I love the discussions.

I think mansard roofs are best to survive, single pitch roofs are the worst. The house on the right is the one

That design looks weak even for an aquarium stand. But apparently it's a lot less costly than being on the ground floor in a flood.

You can’t see it but those structural columns supporting the house are steel i-beams welded to a steel floor frame. Then they put a thin covering of wood or sometimes siding to hide the ugly beam otherwise it looks like a rednecks garage. I would probably make several design changes myself. But these seem to be very popular and meet insurance requirements. Anything else other than an elevated design is not eligible for flood or hurricane insurance.

Diagonals certainly wouldn´t hurt. The columns are slender; don´t know how well they´d hold up
against big chunks of storm debris, you know like suvs or errant yachts. Katrina left some pretty

Well it’s kind of hard to anticipate what might come ashore. In Camille we had very large ships come ashore. Katrina had stuff too, like a floating Casino:
