First Flat

I'm a brand new e biker and forum member and recently purchased a very nice used (220 miles on it) RM load 60. I absolutely love riding it up here in the desert of southeastern Washington along the Columbia river. I did not get any operating/user manuals with my bike and have limited mechanical skills. When my rear tire went flat I took it to a local bike shop and got very poor service. Now my shifter no longer works correctly and my assist controller is messed up. The shop returned their labor fee but I won't have them work on my bike again. Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome @DD boy - I’m sorry to hear about your sub-par bike shop. Is there another dealer in your locality? I think you need someone that is a specialist in R&M or eBikes in general. Bicycles are getting more like cars in the use of electronics and high-tolerance components. It improves the bike, but makes it more difficult for your average grease monkey to fix.

I had a rear-tyre flat while on an eight-day, 500km ride last week. I needed two people to help me change the tyre. It wasn’t easy!

My ‘fix’ is to buy the new Schwalbe eBike Marathon Tour tyres with their Air Plus inner tubes. It’s a much tougher setup and very difficult to puncture.

I believe there is another shop, close by .......advertised right here on this web site. Will look into the tougher tires. Thanks for the good advice. We have a plant here that’s called tack weed, it grows profusely along side maintained roads and trails all summer long. Going to have to “toughen up”.

Sorry if this is like closing the barn door after the horses get out, but after going through a similar situation as yours (except the bike shop didn’t screw up the repair), I added Slime to my rear tire. This happened about two years ago and since then I got one more flat in the rear, but the Slime sealed it right up. All I had to do was add some air. Also it happened while riding my wife’s trike. Trikes are similar to Ebikes in that changing a flat in the rear tire is a real PIA!

Flats in the front tire I can deal with, but in the rear, forget about it. I just use my AAA service. It’s called “call my wife to come get me.“

How far are you from Hood River Oregon. There is a Riese & Müller dealer there. Oregon E-Bikes. The co-owner has been riding a Load 75.

160 miles..........that’s where I bought the bike, they have been great to work with but their mechanic is booked into Oct. Found a new shop here in Kennewick that is on top of my issue. Thanks for the reference.
