Enough is enough, is it time to begin a Class Action or other legal action for Allant owners?

With the soon to be leaked info on the 2021 models, it will be of great interest to see what is going to be a "parallel" offering and it it will be well thought out.
Rumors are Yamaha motors, and then what components?
A frame is a frame.
A tire is a tire, as is a rim and brakes and similar items.
Therefore, what makes to "item" the item of choice?
Just putting it out there.
A safety recall is one thing but a recall due to a multitude of accumulating deficiencies is another.
Anyone? THoughts?

Sorry to hear about your continuing issues with the Trek Allant.

You caught my interest with the Yamaha rumor... any details to share?

I am hoping you get a long-term solution to your Allant very soon. I understand your frustration with paying big money on new tech and having problems.
With the exception of my non-working battery key I’m very happy with mine. As long as I can charge it while still stuck in the bike i can live with it. My biggest issue is having to load the the bike into the back of my very cushioned truck to transport it since Trek warns against transporting on a bike rack with the battery in.

“You can fix anything with a hammer if you just have a big enough hammer”

Seems like it might be a bit harsh, though.

Gotta go! The sun is shining and the Riverview nature preserve is calling.

If I were you, I would insist that Trek remove the battery and restore the removal/lock function. Anything less that full, per spec, functionality should not be accepted.

Trust me, that’s my opinion too but I will continue to ride till there’s a fix. None of this sitting around in the shop for weeks! I’m leaving it with the local guy tomorrow to get an answer or to bring it back home till he has one. Im sure as hell not accepting that they rip it out without a brand new key set/latch/battery and body colored decorative case.
My biggest concern is that there doesn’t seem to be any way other than forcing it out!

Although I don't agree with the op, I also don't understand how a bike can be called refined when you pay $6k on a bike then add $1-2K worth of upgrades and still the bike waits in the shop for a significant amount of time.

Even refined vehicles can sit in a shop for long periods of time!😉

Refined, with a major flaw? Sure.
Fix the flaw and you end up with an awesome ebike.

One definition of refined is " with impurities or unwanted elements having been removed by processing " and according to this definition if something has flaws then it is not refined.

Moreover,
It doesn't mean that every vehicle that sits in the shop for a long time is refined;). Even "unrefined" bikes come with a working battery key btw.

I’m holding off taking mine in for a latch fix until I air the thing out some on my country roads. A real pleasure to ride except...except for the beautiful Brooks saddle that starts eating up my softer side by mile 12. Always some fly in the soup no matter how delicious.

Around here... the more expensive the vehicle, the longer the wait for parts. 😉
That said, I agree with the OP that Trek needs to fix the issues or provide a new bike.

When i made it LOUD and CLEAR that Specialized, Treks , Giants have major issues and SHOULD ONLY go with BH or BH EASY MOTION,many posters were so massively brainwashed they didn't even knew about BH.

Now you guys didn't bought them , they LEFT the US , all operations ate closed. Europe is full of HAPPY ebikers on reliable ebikes from brands
that will never come to US , b/c here the specialized brainwashing of Trek/Giant/Specialized is enough to fool the regular customer.

Either the cheap clunkers or the ERC's (expensive refined clunkers 😉) , or expensively refined ?

I'm getting a mtb. soon and guess what, it will be a BH, b/c is very reliable , and warranty still works from Spain i was sent a minor part in 5days !
And what else you guys don't know is that regarding frames , GIANT makes most of them , for Trek and many other companies. Not for BH.

Other thing is STOP BUYING BOSCH motorized ebikes !! Shimano Steps/YamahA, diversity is good .

You will not listen , i know, wait 1-2more years and BOSCHS will have all sorts of limiters and proprietary service that you need to pay big bucks in order to service it.

I bought my class one Trek ebike fully aware of the 20 mph limit which is generally fast enough for this old man! I’m also fully aware the Bosch is an imperfect company (as most are) but BH was apparently dead and gone here by the time I was seriously looking. What evidence is there that Trek does not make its own frames?

There's not a fail proof bike under the sun. My BH is essentially an oversized paperweight after my much vaunted Dapu hub seized up (https://electricbikereview.com/foru...owner-trials-tribulations-and-triumphs.33516/). The test is how satisfactorily the manufacturer or dealer makes good, right?

FYI...the local Trek shop guy fixed the lock within 3 hours! Very happy he was able to get the battery out and get the lock parts/tolerances adjusted properly so it works great now! I hope you get this kind of satisfaction.👍

Thanks, good to hear that. My replacement hub is one to two weeks out. Eager to get her back on the road.

We will need to have Trek extend out original warranty for the "inconvenience" if they don't buy back.

I have 2 BH and the Dapu hubs are still working impeccably.
2015 and 2018 ebkes.

First you bought yours used, it could have had and likely it did have 10k+ . A used ebike is problematic.

Tip:

Changing the display would bring a heavily used ebike from 15k miles to 0miles ! Each display has it's own memory. If you put a new one, we have now a 0miles ebike, or maybe 500miles if you buy used BH display for 40-50$.

And you are complaining that the hub gave up...

Person who sold it may have put many milesand sold it like new cond. when it may have been heavily used. You can't tell how many miles they have from how they look, ebikes add ip miles very easily, b/c is like a car, not a lot of effort on out part.

Never buy used ebike ! I learned that lesson.

My Nitro is pristine condition and i did 13-15k miles on it ! With 30mph capability , miles add up fast and easy. The other one , for winter , same story, a few issues but i know how to fix them and taking the rear wheel out is easy !

There was nobody to show you thay and you had to improvise.

Here :

Bike upside down !
Just untwist each screw(pull on the RD for the axle screw on that side to untwist easier), unplug motor cable, put the RD In smaller
cog , turn tne cranks and make sure is in 11/-2t cog, spray some wd-40 on each side of the axle/hub, give it a good push and pull sideways (2-3mm) , hold on the rd, pull on the wheel, remember how it was positioned(the spacer, axle hub direction)
When putting it back, all steps in reverse.
2-3min. !

Their bikes after 2017 have THRU axle. You would greatly enjoy that. Buy still need to pay attention on how the hub is placed .

An unlikely scenario, as the OP stated that he purchased the bike from a reputable LBS EBike specialist. I doubt that they would risk their reputation.

The vast majority of sellers are honest people as evidenced here on EBR forums... we should encourage EBike adoption including pre-owned. YMMV, really. 😉
