eMTB Options For 2024

I've finally figured out why I have re-embraced MTB type of riding so much. I really, really, miss skiing and there's absolutely no way I could even think of trying due to the state of some of my joints. However the "gravity flow" of trail riding is as close as I can get to the feel of skiing (albeit much slower as I was a bit of a warp factor 9 type of skier).

I got my new bike (Fathom E+1 Pro) in late July and am just about to crack 1000 kms on it, mostly single track.
Probably not that much for a lot of you, especially any roadies, but that's a fair amount for trail rides for me. I think I'm over 13,000 meters in verticals with that as well.

The nice weather looks like it's over here. And now back to wintery stuff, but unfortunately, no skiing...

It's getting worse. A week ago shipping on a team or ltb was jan, the m10 or m20 was june.
My lbs had one on order but no idea of when the eta is

The Orbea really speaks to me, but I can't justify ordering a bike with a years wait - especially at the moment with so much global uncertainty.

I'm quietly hoping the ep8 gets fixed soon and all those recalled ep8 bikes flood the showrooms, then all the spec sl owners decide they need to sell and buy the latest flavour emtb....flooding the market with cheap sl's ?

"Cheap SL's"? Uh, no. 🤣

@RandallS - why I like it so well too. It's the closest thing to dirtbike trail riding I've ever done. Following a lifetime of trails and exploring, it was beyond sad, the day I sold the last dirtbike. Discovering mountain biking put a kick back in my step! Soooo much fun!

I was a very avid skier in my youth - I grew up in the PNW where the mountain pass ski resorts were but an hour's drive away. We started going while still in school - they would bus the kids up there, and then later as I had my own vehicles. Warp-9 was an understatement - downhill racer more like it - and then the crash. I got pitched sideways on a double jump and landed on my face, cracked my eye-socket. No one wore helmets in those days. That was my last ski trip. EVA o_O

For all the crazy activities over my lifetime, it's remarkable I'm even still alive. Some I've known over the years have not done so well - some are dead, some crippled. The struggles are real. 😇

A little top up. When this realization struck me was when I was heading home, down a wide open green space with a gentle slope, I often do wide "swooping" turns. This reminded me of my university days when I also taught skiing at a local hill in Edmonton, Alberta. One of my long time skiing and biking buddies always commented on my "Ski School" turns when we cruising wide open slopes, rather than our muscular mogul thrashing escapades. This friend is currently shoppingfor an e-MTB so he can keep up when we go riding.

That is a lot for single track I think! It takes me twice as long to make the same miles on single track. I don't do it very much, neither my bike nor my skills are really up to it, but I have been enjoying doing some of the easier stuff. however it takes the same amount of time to do less than half the miles. At least for me.

Sharing a bit of bike bling porn from the open-house Beer & Bikes event at Trail Head Cyclery this afternoon. ;)

Rechecked my map data on Strava.

I think I used the wrong word(s) - "MOST" is not the correct word. "A LOT" captures it better. If I had to guess, it's probably 55-60% actual singletrack'ish, with another 25% dual or graveled paths.
Fewer confrontations with unleashed dogs and the ever increasing population of spatially unaware, disembodied, ear-budded hoodies,

But almost all of my rides have some element of off-road or trail.
Most on-road activities involve just getting to a trail head or specific destinations such as friends, family or more importantly - Pubs or bike shops. 😀

Here's a good summary of what's coming in 2021 as model year 2022 bikes. ;)

He looks exhausted , perhaps all that purple light is playing tricks with his cicadian rythm?

He's missed the bigger picture - shortages of components .....the first motor with an internal gearbox is announced mid 2021 , by 2022 chain shortages see hydraulic drive introduced , by 2023 disc pad shortages mean manufacturers release the CVT mid hydrailic drive with regenerative braking. Around 2025 electricity prices have reached the point where our frames have integrated solar panels. Just in time for pandemic 2026 , when plug in VR optimises the Ebike experience. Then VR virus of 2029 is released by the dolphins , who have secretly been perfecting wireless invasive technology , 90% of the worlds population stand on the shoreline doing backflips until they collapse of exhaustion, the dolphins steal our bikes and live happily ever after.

Hmmm, have you been chugging the Claret in celebration of the Bledisloe 4 result? 😉

I thought the dolphins left in the end, maybe they didnt steal the chargers and left the bikes when they ran out of juice.

I had to look that up - haven't seen so many pictures of big blokes rolling around since my wife was researching gender equity policies for work.

"Dirty e-MTB is a happy e-MTB" :)

I managed to damage one of my CrankBrothers Stamp pedals on the last ride! There was a large concrete block just adjacent to a narrow path I rode yesterday. The far end of the pedal hit the block and the pedal axle got slightly bent. Lucky me, I own a spare pedal set...

So I left the chinpiece to my helmet at home, no worries - I'll just ride UP M
nappa downhill track. No worries, it's only 1.9 km long...and a 33 c day...

I probably should have taken the hint when I rode through the first 20 spider webs....But ebikes make hills easy, right? And it's only an intermediate trail.....

A good one! I can't only understand the ride map that indicates you were riding downhill? (267 m descent, 1 m climb).
