Electric bike

Hi Court. I'm 4'9" petite, 101 LB & 57 years. I live in San Diego & in the second floor of a condo & need to carry the bike upstairs. So far couldn't find a right e bike that fits me & also not very heavy bike. I want a class 2 & want to use it as a commuter. I checked the velo mini plus but the wheels are very small.
What's your recommendation.
Thanks,
Maya

What is the terrain like in your area? Hills, flat? I don't know California very well. If your commute is hilly, you will require a larger 500-750 watt motor, and that adds weight. If your'e on a relatively flat commute, you may be able to get away with a 250 watt motor. 20mph is plenty for a commuter, but some will say get a Class 3/28mph ebike. Class 3 to me pushes it to close to a moped or scooter that runs off fuel, hence zero range anxiety or power concerns. Now your comment on wheel size. Smaller wheels are lighter, but larger wheels can bump up and down stairs easier. A GoCycle would be worth considering because all the dirty parts are enclosed, cables are enclosed and they are generally on the lighter side. Stairs and your height make suggestions tricky though. Hopefully others will chime in....

In your case, a class 2 bike would be a good choice. Look for models that offer walking assist which helps move around a heavy bike. I often use mine to help walk the bike up stairs.

I never thought to use the walk mode for bumping up stairs! That's genius!

You can do this with any throttled bike but the walking feature makes it a bit easier. Use caution and always keep one hand on the brake.

We own three folding bikes, but we never fold them nor do we carry up stairs. In any case, they're custom conversions, but I do like the concept of a light weight, easy to maneuver ebike that is easy to lift into a minivan or put on a rack. You might try a 20" model.

I've always been interested in the Qualisports brand. Here's a thread on them.

Would you be open to a folding bike. Enclosed is a link. I live on the 3rd Floor of my apartment building. I commute 3-4 times a week. I lock my bike outside but bring my stuff and battery inside my place. On weekends, I take out the battery and roll the bike up the stairs. I have enclosed a bike that might work for your. The reviews are on the page. Good luck.

Gonna toss the Pedego Latch in the mix, because the belt drive keeps the rear end clean and you can remove the battery to reduce the weight if needed. Another plus would hopefully be local service/support. Simple rear geared hub is pretty bullet proof to.
