Ohhh boy. This is gonna complicate things for us all.
Good catch, so likely not an Ecotric issue?Unless they scooped up the remnants of the battery and stuck it in a metal tray, that looks like a metal case (Silverfish) battery that melted. The Rocket uses a plastic case battery. Maybe a second ebike was involved. Glad no one died.
Yep, and it could complicate travelling with ebikes.
I thought of that but my concern is for all my stuff I keep in my storage trailer with my bikes .... where I also charge them AND store my batteries when not in use. I can't afford to lose that stuff.Unless they scooped up the remnants of the battery and stuck it in a metal tray, that looks like a metal case (Silverfish) battery that melted. Bumping this cautionary tail for the Afternoon/Evening crowd. Got ME thinking that's sure.
Couldn't that create a bomb rather than just a fire? Somebody needs to do a test.Retrofit an ammo can and charge in it. I keep a welding glove ner mine. Be sure to remove the gasket. I drilled holes and added rubber grommets.
There have been fires at ebike shops and warehouses.I've pretty much decided to do my charging off the bike and outside. Still concerned about batteries sitting in storage. Which would never be at high percentage of charge. Anybody ever hear of a 'decent' battery catch fire when just sitting around? Not being charged.
The government and insurers are asleep at the wheel. I'm confident that if you investigated, you'd find a recurring pattern of dodgy suppliers. It seems ebike fires are far more common than I ever realized. far worse than the hoverboard scare of several years ago. In August, the New York City Fire Department reported 2 deaths and 55 fires involving ebike/scooter batteries in 2021.

And this month, a third person was killed, and 5 more fires were added to the list, London has seen 25 fires in the first six months of 2021.
