Yesterday I had a beautiful commute home on my ebike. All of the mountains were out (as we say here in the Pacific Northwest), so I had a ride home at sunset, with a pink/orange sky, riding across Lake Washington which was a dark blue, approaching teal in color, sparkling in the sun, looking at Mt. Rainier's peak to my right, heading toward the white-caped Cascade mountains. Amazing.
On the way home, a sparkle of glass. Sh**. I had avoided the same area last week when I saw the glass. But today, in different light, I missed it and rolled right through. All seemed okay, but 5 miles later, bike wobbling, I called my husband and he brought me the last two miles home.
That night I took my bike to my local bike tech, Dan Sotelo, in his garage workshop for a rear flat repair. As he fixed my bike, he told me that on Quora a user asked him "What's so great about ebikes." His reply? "Ebikes change lives."
They do. There's no way I could do my beautiful 25 mile round-trip commute on a conventional bike. I'd be sitting in my car, or sitting on a bus. An ebike is an investment in health that is also fun. My 80 year old dad stopped skiing and said he thought he'd miss it a lot, but riding his ebike everday gives him that feeling of motion and speed (he's 80 and not riding fast, but it FEELS fast!) that pushes the same buttons that skiing did. Ebiking has also changed lives of my other family members.
Oh, and about that glass--on my list is to bring a broom with me the next time I ride that route.
Have a great cycling day!
