In case there are any interested SHORT Neo Volt owners thinking about getting a Thudbuster ... If you're tall, then this will NOT work for you.

NEO VOLT seatpost is 31.6mm x 580mm.

Thudbuster LT Suspension Seatpost, ST3272KXL (450mm seatpost, 27.2mm)
Custom Seat Tube Shim, ST27316 (27.2mm to 31.6mm)

The MAXIMUM height possible is 260mm from seatpost collar to saddle rail. If you need more height, the solution would be a different saddle... one with a greater rail to saddle-top height.

I was unable (afraid) to remove and rotate the silver stop (which prevents folding) as shown in this video ....

... so I've cut pieces of rubber waterhose to wrap around the silver stop to compensate for the 2.2mm gap between the seatpost and the silver stop.

I'm anxiously awaiting my Pinheads seatpost collar to complete the adventure.

WOW ... the suspension provided is excellent !!!

Thanks for sharing your experience with this Trinity! I'd love to see some pictures of the finished product to get an idea of how high the seat makes it. I also love the Thudbuster and am excited that more companies are getting into the space (Suntour and Body Float).

Hey Trinity,
Curious to know why you can't remove silver stop?
also, is it necessary to remove if you need more length in the seatpost stem?

Ravi ...

I removed both of the screws (as in the video) and expected the silver stop to wiggle out. It seemed to be wedged between the frame quite tight. Maybe some of the frame paint "sealed" it in place. I chose to be cautious, and did NOT try to tap it out (even gently) with a mallet/tool. The screw holes of the silver stop appear to be off-center .... That leads me to reason that if the silver stop is oriented differently, that it would "move" anteriorly ... meaning the seatpost Minimum Insertion point could be higher.

The silver stop is what prevents the Neo Volt from folding. The silver stop MUST NOT BE REMOVED. If you look at the OEM seatpost, the two markings ("Folding Position" vs "Locking Position/Minimum Insert") are merely an inch apart. Once the seatpost raises to "Folding Position" or beyond, it has passed where the silver stop would hit the post upon folding. To prevent folding, the seatpost must be 196mm into the frame (seatpost tube). To achieve this minimum insertion, the Thudbuster (XL 450mm version) is only left with 254mm above the seatpost collar (frame). (I previously said 260mm because I felt underneath the bike and ensured the seatpost hit the stop. This is further reinforced by the rubber hose pieces I used).

Yeah, that's a beautiful photo and I like that you've been able to make your system work with a suspension seat post. That's pretty awesome for a folding electric bike!

What about taller Neo Volt owners. Is it possible to get a longer seatpost?

Unfortunately, the 450mm seatpost was the longest Thudbuster (that would work) at the time of my adventure. They do make longer ones "for folding bikes", but the diameter of these are too large for the NeoVolt seat tube.

What if we forget about the Thudbuster. Is there any long seatpost that can fit on the Neo Volt folding bike? I know that Brompton is selling seatpost for tall people but the diameter is 31.8 mm. It doesn't fit on the Neo Volt that has a dianeter if 31,6 mm

Wow, all of this is good stuff. I had a thudbuster on my first e-bike (an Easy Land) and it was excellent. I have just bought a Neo Volt Sport and would like to install one on my new bike. Thanks, Trinity, for demonstrating that it does work.
But, guys, I have a more urgent problem. Please help. I assembled my new bike and folded it, but now I can't unfold. Why not? It seems so easy on the video, hardly worthy of comment. But I'm stuck with this very tall, very short bike that would look better under a circus clown. And I lack the clown's balance skills. Please help.

I'll try to upload a couple of photos

Press the button shown in this picture and try to straighten it. Might take couple of attempts but it's an easy one.

One good turn deserves another request, Lenny. You resolved my question about the folding button, but can you tell me how to buy and fit a twist throttle on my Neo Volt Sport? My bike has the European Pedelec system. I prefer the twist throttle because it saves your butt when you have slowed right down and forgotten to downshift on the derailleur. It makes it easier to negotiate awkward corners at slow speed. And it improves reliability. On my first e-bike, the chain came off and jammed in the cassette. I was able to continue in electric only mode and fix the problem at home. Any help would be welcome.

Sorry, Trinity, I've jumped on your thread and wandered off topic, but I wasn't sure which thread would be best for this question. Also, I think Lenny is a dealer so he may be able to answer my question and supply the parts.

Hi Trinity,
I'm back for more chat about the thudbuster possibilities on the Neo Volt Sport.
Data for the thudbuster and the NVS have been collated on the attached photo. You can see that the thudbuster LT / XL can be purchased with a seat post of the correct diameter (31.6 mm) and with a maximum total length of 446 mm. To lock the folding facility on the Neo Volt Sport, you must insert the seat post a minimum of 200 mm into the frame. This means the maximum extension available above the frame is 246 mm. I'm a short arse guy and I've been riding my bike with an extension of 320 mm. Hmmmm. I think I'll set my NVS seat post to an extension of 246 mm and take a test ride to check I'm not too cramped. Then I'll come back and report

Well, that wasn't perfect.
The handlebars are very high, the wheels are small and the seat is very low, so it looks like something a monkey should ride at the circus. And I can never completely unfold my legs. Maybe Thudbuster can customise the length of the seatpost. I'll investigate further. Maybe Trinity has been down this path already.

David, sorry I haven't replied earlier ... I don't think the Thudbuster LT XL comes as a 31.6mm ... only as a 27.2mm. They do make a Thudbuster for folding bikes, but that won't work for us because its diameter is 33.9mm. I am short, so the low seat is okay for me. I am not able to fully straighten my legs either, but I feel more safe being able to touch the ground while seated.
