Easy Motion Neo Street: Display turns off under load

Hi everybody. I will show being brand new here because it's been years since I've returned or posted here. My Easy Motion E-bike has worked flawlessly for me for 7 years. Recently, the display has started turning off when I am under heavy load. I can pretty much trigger it to turn off by going up a steep hill on a higher assist setting like Boost or the one below that. As best I can tell, it never turns off on level ground. No one is supporting these bikes in my city anymore. Anyone have any ideas what's going on, or how to trouble shoot? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like voltage sag. Is the battery also 7 years old? Does your display show percentage of battery remaining? If it does, what % before it shuts down? Does the bike power up, without recharging, after 10 or 15 minutes? If it does what is the % left? If the battery still shows significant charge left, it still could be sag, less likely though. I have one 5 year old pack that still has decent performance. A 7 year old pack?? If the battery is still good, it could be overheating. I would think after all these years you would know if certain circumstances overheated the system. I'd suspect voltage sag. Doesn't mean the old pack is useless. You can try lowering assist, drop the gear on the bike and spin faster. You'll be going slower, but you won't be demanding as much from an old, tired pack. You can also have the battery rebuilt with new cells.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the battery is 7 years old. 1500 miles on the bike. It shows percentage and, it will die on a full battery charge. I have not observed the bike powering back up on it's own. I usually just power it up manually and it turns back on. It will show same percentage charge before and after failing. Never have observed the battery overheating. Basically, what I'm fishing for is, do I need to just rebuild the battery, or might it be something else.

I am willing to get a battery rebuild, if I know it will solve this problem. I know I cannot be sure, that is why I'm on the fence. On the fence between buying a new bike or saving this bike with a $600 battery rebuild.

I want suggesting the battery may have overheated. A motor can overheat and shut the system down. I don't think that's a common problem for BH ebikes. Given the pack is 7 years old with low miles it probably sat dormant a lot. It's most likely the battery pack.

I concur with the battery probably requiring replacement or rebuilding.

We have two 7 year old BH Neos (Cross and City) and experienced the City shutting down when climbing hills a three years ago. Switched batteries between them showed the fault stayed with the battery. Took the City battery case apart and could see damaged cells. Decided to buy two new batteries from BH at the time but the old Cross battery is just as good as the new ones so I now rotate three batteries packs.

I think the City pack hit the ground once and was likely the cause.

I have acquired an eight year old Street bike with exactly the same symptoms as you describe . Has the new battery been completely successful ?

Yes. I have been pleased with the results. Added capacity as well.
