Do I Need A Chain/Bash Guard Like This ? ( Biktrix )

I want one but maybe I don't know what's good for me. This is a pic from the Biktrix FS Juggernaut. If that is a real bash guard it seems to me it's a really good idea. Both to protect the chainring and to keep your pants out of the chain. Might help keep the chain on too. Yes? No? I've looked around but can't find anybody selling them. Be nice to have a Narrow/Wide chainring to go with it as well. Any advice or links to purchase would be appreciated. Thank you

Bump😏

The bashguards with the default bafang spider are too big for the hydra (most fs bikes). They correspond to a ~50T chainring
We can make smaller / custom guards but I need to check the diameter and clearance to see if it will work ok.

I don't think its necessary. Serious mtb riders rarely if ever have one. I've never damaged a chainring, even when I've gone down on the trail. It might be helpful if you have standard 26" tires (or smaller) and you hop a lot of tall curbs, but 27.5, 29er and fat tires should offer plenty of clearance.

That exact "bash guard" and 44t chainring ( 130BCD ) came with my frame and motor I got from WW when I ordered from Pushkar. They don't fit on my bike (Travelanche), it would hit the frame. You would just need the correct spider and mounting bolts/spacers. So Mr. R Scott if you PM me with some contact info They can be yours for whatever it costs to ship. My zip is 92117.

I have a Rock Ring bash guard that I bought about 25 years ago for my 26" Diamondback Response Sport. It absolutely got used and protected my front chainrings. Hopping over logs and other harder materials became a mostly non-issue. Are they for everyone? No. And like you say, for todays modern sizes of 29'rs they may not be needed anymore. For keeping pants out of gears? I think there are probably better options.

Keep an eye on Bolton Bikes though, he's about to release a new, made here in the US, product that will speak to this very item!!

will show at least a preview of what's coming!

Here's a better live/public clip, start at 7:46:

@reed scott - I spotted this chainring bash guard from Exess bikes. Wonder if we can fit them on the WW designs. @pushkar ???

All- I contacted both 77designz and Exess to find out more about this Bafang Ultra mounted bash ring, it really looked like a winner. Long story short (thankful I speak/write some German!) it will cost €122.02. However per @pushkar, it will not fit a Hydra frame....

So glad I didn't impulse order like other things I'm ordering....
