Degase

I do run errands on my bike but more for the fun of it than a real need. We live about 3 to 8 miles out side of town depending on where we go, most of the shopping is 8 miles one way. In my truck that would be almost one gallon in my wife’s car, less. We are trying to make less runs into town and combine errands. Gas is $5.29 a gallon now. It’s the price of groceries that is costing us more than the gas.
A guy just wrote this and sent it in an email. I love it.
"I’ve been loving my bike and even took it to see my daughter graduate from PHS on Saturday and beat the traffic and the rest of my family arriving there!"
I have been selling giant panniers at cost locally so people can go shopping without a car for more than half their errands. The trip to the hardware store doesn't always include big stuff like lumber. These suckers will hold four gallons of milk and two loafs of bread.

Gas Prices and Ebikes

Found this article by Micah Toll on Electrek. Americans are in love with pickups and so are now having wallet shock at the gas pump. The cost of a few fill ups for a Ford 150 is approaching the cost of an entry level ebike. Of course, I'm not comparing the two as far as uses, but it certainly makes one think.
"If you drive a big truck, it would take you surprisingly few fill-ups to buy an e-bike. An F-150 has a 26-gallon fuel tank, which puts a $5 per gallon fill-up at $130". (or 124 euros)
So roughly saving 7 fill-ups would have enough for a Lectric XP. And that's doesn't consider California at over $6 gallon!

I was worried for a minute, thinking you were posting a picture from central MN. The palm trees in the picture threw me...

I observed a short elderly woman with a big pickup in a parking lot yesterday. She was putting things she bought into plastic tubs that were in the bed of her pickup truck. Apparently she always carried a little step ladder with her as that's what she needed to get into the back of the truck to load her bins. I would say close to 50%+ of the vehicles that pass me when out for a ride are big pickup trucks. Some have huge tires that stick out the sides. Dumbest things on the road. Unless your job is such that you need one of them to make a living, you shouldn't own one.
