Cold weather impact on battery charge

I took my Ridgerider for a 40km (25 mi) ride on Wednesday and it was cold. The temperature was in the 9 to 10 degree C (48 to 50 degree F).
While riding I was surprised to see how fast my battery usage was decreasing. I was averaging around 1% drop in battery reserve for every 1 km traveled, while in level 2 power.
At the end of my 25mi ride I only had 60% battery life left, which surprised me, compared to my warmer weather riding.
Makes me wish my bike had come with a 17 amp battery. :)
