Clothing complaint

I decided, after going from (at 65) 22 stone two years ago to 13stone, to get a new wardrobe in general, and as I had just returned to cycling, proper clothes, not expensive branded ones but Halfords and the like.

My annoyance is sizing.

WHY is it that whilst all of the clothes I have chosen are the same comfortable fit they range from medium to XXL.

Why is there no standard size, how can a large in one type be, in a different garment, make, either XXL or M ?

welcome to buying clothes. even in brands like I got a high-end cycling pants and my 36 size was fine in the pants but I buy the shorts and they are a size smaller then the pants. fiure that one out. I bought a great rain jacket last years model marked down jacket after I tired this years it was a size smaller.

I think it’s the same for everybody no matter the size. My biggest complaint is the length of shirts in both the body and sleeves. I often buy talls even though I’m just over 6 feet tall.

T wear Medium to large shorts that are what "I" call shorts, tried cycle shorts in Halfords XXXL :mad::mad:

I had this problem buying my first pair of pearl uzami rain jacket. All of my other clothes are large but these were extra extra large and still a little tight.

I could just imagine a government body trying to regulate clothing sizes though it would be a nightmare

Serious question, would it have anything to do with the difference between chinese large and small where they are made and the rest of the world

Up until 2000 US sizes were guided by DOD sizes, which were the standard. Now everything is guess????
Be sure to buy online so you have to pay freight going to exchange. Amazon loves this. I won't buy Amazon's stupid soap operas to get free freight. Their drivers are a hazard to bicyclists, also.

Err Amazon returns are free in the UK

no, clothes made anywhere (asia, africa, south america etc) are made to the sizes specified by the manufacturer for the target market. if you've ever looked at clothes in china or japan, it's quite surprising how different the proportions are. even the very largest size would have nowhere near enough length in the leg and arm for a tall western person.

as for the original complaint, outside of tailored clothing, you just have to look at the garment and brand. the best fit is always from garments whose size is specified in inches or cm, then numeric sizes (for women) and then XS-XL stuff, which really is quite subjective! even with numeric sizes, you need a translation. much like bike frames!

Congrats on such a dramatic weight loss! Yeah you have to try before you buy. I'm barrel chested and in UK the men's sizes seem to be for skinny chested football players! I remember the first time in Australia and men's shirts were sized much more looser and comfortable for me. I wondered if it was due to Rugby and Aussie Rules being more muscular sports. Who knows, but I did buy a lot of Aussie shirts that first trip! Actually when I buy merino base & mid layers for cycling I like the US brand Smartwool whereas the New Zealand merino brand Icebreaker I find too skinny for me.

Yes and No. It depends. I was in Tahiti, on vacation, and was told I need a Medium. I live in California and I usually wear Large, or XLarge, depending on the manufacturer. I like XL for long sleeve shorts since I have long arms. The very nice lady continued to say that they are normally larger people and I’d need a Medium. The Medium fit perfect! I did try the Large and it was too big.

On another note, in the above graphic….my inseam is listed, but not my waist size. I’m 32x34, same as high school. I usually get 34x34 or 33x34, then I have to wear a stupid belt. Buying clothes sucks.

Amazon piece rate freight is 50% higher than UPS surface and up to 200% higher than USPS. I have not bought from Amazon since April 2021. I do not need items the same day.
Two roads on the way to Amazon warehouse have become death traps for bicycles in the 15 minutes before report time. I can no longer use those roads. Cars cross hills at 70 mph, sometimes flying off the wheels. It is a 30 mph zone.

That shows no comparison between what I have been talking about which is Small, Medium, Large, Xlarge, XXlarge etc

yes, that was kind of my point - XS-XL sizes are really not based on anything anymore, the only clothing which is comes in different sizes, jackets, suits, some pants, etc.

Curious, why is it Amazon's fault law enforcement doesn't enforce? We have periodic crackdowns at "get to work time" and speeds are as posted most of the time.

I can blame anybody I choose. I have seen police cars parked at the intersection of Hwy 62 and Logistics+Salem road near Amazon shift change time. That could inhibit red light running. There is no place to park out where the cars are cresting hills at 70 mph. Perps here do not go to jail for speeding. Jail is full of murderers, child assaulters and drug dealers. A bicyclist's body was found in the ditch out on Salem road 7 years ago by county mowers. Highly decomposed. Nobody reported the collision or death.

been trying to get some work shorts as mine are too large. I ordered two different ones in 36 from Amazon both are a bit too small. got some dickies today and they must be mislabeled as they are 6" too small. I got a pair for home from REI on the weekend more than I wanted to spend 85.00 but they fit. so I guess I get another pair for work.
