I changed the rear hub gear from a 16 tooth to a 22 tooth, in other words increased torque over %26 but reduced speed by the same %. i have not noticed speed reduction but i have noticed a huge increase in power.
This is the strange thing, with the new gear when i floor the throttle it pushes me back in the seat, like putting a supercharger in your mom's minivan. Pretty sure that's not suppose to happen. It slugs along until i hit it about 3/4 way down, then afterburners.
Is this caused by the regulator? motor? gear?

Is this one of those MY1016 Unite motors with an 11T gear spinning an auxialliary cog on the rear wheel? I think it means that 22T is still a little small of a gear for the fastest start. It's slowing up trying to get started and then when the bike starts rolling, the motor gets to spin.

Like you said though, if you go even bigger, you'll limit the top speed,
