Seems like it's too much work to lube the chain. Leaving it on over night is a bit of a turn off for me.

nah ... much less work...I no longer need to use that Park tool cleaner box. And It is easier to see where it is because it is white waxy not clear and runny or black and greasy. I put it on when I get back from a ride instead of before I ride. Riddle me this Batman....Is it more work to remove the lint from the dryer after you use it or before you use it? (-;

Sheldon Brown said chain maintenance is like a religion, everyone has their own beliefs. However, my beliefs border on laziness. Did a fun ride today down to a local river. It'd been years since I'd been down there. Never on a bike before, that's for sure. I'd forgotten about the 2 miles of gravel at the end! I promise to wipe down my chain tomorrow! Otherwise, it's on its own for a couple of a couple of hundred miles before I care enough to take a look...
