Here is a question for you Fat Bike riders,
that spend more time on off road game trails, goat paths, cow trails, rough, brushy, rocky and dirty trails etc.
Has anyone ever had ANY problems the the brush snagging, damaging or destroying the back shifting derailleurs wheels/frame,
while riding these type of trail's.

I am thinking of some type of brush deflector for my Wart Hog hunting bike..

Your thoughts and suggestions,
Tia,
Don

Yes, I have a slightly bent derailleur from hitting a rock on a trail. Hadn't thought of any way to protect it, just learned to be more aware of the trail. And I've mocked up a few skidplates for my Rover ST (none are commercially available) to go under the crank/where the wires all exit the frame and to protect the PAS sensor & magnet ring.

I'm not so worried about brush, but rather rocks, stumps, large fallen branches and the like. I've gone through some decent brush and not had any issues, knock on wood.

I too am curious if anyone's done anything as you asked, thanks for bringing this up!

Don, not so much a problem with my Haibike Full FatSix, but I can tell you there has been plenty of times when riding on the towpaths that a small stick/piece of vine will get kicked up and into the derailleur or even the back wheel, at speed.

The trick for me is the second it happens, to stop pedaling further, just stop, dismount and get the sticks, vines, etc, completely out. To not do that would have resulted in bending of either the derailleur or if wedged in the spokes, breaking spokes.
