Bosch Purion Software Suggestion - power adjust

Does anyone know if there is a plan to introduce new software that could allow choice of power or additional eco mode.
Primarily I want a mode that is less than ECO, that basically removes the additional weight of the bike and sets me more equal to standard MTB's when Im riding with friends on normal bikes. I keep swapping between off and ECO and would much prefer an option inbetween!..

The software to set your own custom assist modes already exists in the Bosch ecosystem. However it is only accessible using the Nyon display. That is a major upgrade from the Purion that usually requires dealer installation by a Bosch certified tech. You also gain GPS mapping, custom ride and fitness screens.

they really need to add it to the Kiox too.

Thanks Alaskan - yep I'm aware of the additional options with the Nyon - but just intrested to know if Bosch are looking to release any further software upgrades for the Purion that would offer at the very least an even lower level of assistance for those occassions cycling with normal bikes..

As I understand it, the default ride modes are stored in the motor. The custom ride modes are set on your PC or phone app as they require at least a touch screen or a mouse to set all the assist effort at chosen speeds for each of the 4 custom modes. Then when the Nyon is turned on in range of your wifi connection, it synchs and updates the custom modes. The Purion has no connectivity via wifi or bluetooth. It should be feasible to extend the custom mode feature to the Kiox as it does have a bluetooth connection to ones phone which could be used to update and synch the modes off the phone app.

The purion is the "stealth", minimalist control/display, intended for those who are either more budget minded or don't want their ebikes readily identified as ebikes. It has no wifi or bluetooth connectivity. As such I would not expect the kind of functionality you are looking for on a Purion.

I know that some ebike motor makers offer more than four default or standard assist modes. Thus far Bosch seems to have found that most of us can make the four currently available work for them. At least they have offered an option to get into the weeds with custom modes on their higher end, more full featured display.

I've already had the 2020 firmware update (on my PURION) increasing torque by 10%, adding the extended boost feature and refinining the eMTB mode. I'd be surprised if the functionality of each mode (or any additional modes) cannot be adjusted accordingly through newer firmware that is provided at a Bosch e-bike service shop.

I'm happy with the minimalism of Purion, not interested in the detail of the other types..

Hello!

The 75Nm to 85Nm torque increase, along with any other performance features were all updates to your drive unit, not the Purion.

Nothing further is planned for Purion. As Alaskan mentioned, it is positioned as a basic, bare-bones display. I'm not an engineer, but my understanding is that it's already maxed-out on the features it is capable of based on hardware, etc. I like to think of Purion as a basic remote, but with a bonus display screen attached.

Most of the "brain" of the Bosch system is within the drive unit, which houses the motor, gearing, processor, sensors, etc. The basic function of our displays are just input/output, aka turn the system on, tell the DU which riding mode you want, and see feedback on speed, distance, etc. As you are aware, some displays show a good bit more info than this, but the drive unit is still in control of what's happeneing with the eBike.

I hope this helps!

The update was not stored on your purion it was on the motor.

The presets are just that...presets with no tweaking or adjustment possible. I have explained how to get what you want within the Bosch system but it requires a display update. You want to keep the Purion, you will have to learn how to use the four preset assist modes as they are...at least for now.

Yes, Bosch monitors this forum and responds to help people sort out issues that arise. They are a very helpful bunch.

There is another thread for suggestions on future updates and features for Bosch. Just use the search feature at the top right of each page to find it.

Hi William - thanks for the clarification - okay, almost there - is there any planned updates to the Performance CX drive unit where there might be additional modes considered?

thanks - I only asked for reply from Bosch as you stated 'as I understand it' but indeed you were correct.
I do know how to use the existing modes :-0 !.. Im just asking about future functionality...

You're welcome!

The only potential updates for the CX DU might be different variable modes, such as the eMTB mode you may already have on yours. The OEM decides what, if any, special riding modes will be available on the DUs that they install on their eBikes. The availability of these modes, even via after-sale software update, will vary based on OEM. With all that being said, I think it's unlikely that any update to the CX would give an option for less assistance, as more customers with CX are always looking for more assistance.

Any customizable or rider-adjustable modes will still require specific a display to be able to facilitate those adjustments within the DU, or to cause the DU to alter its assistance levels.

Question: I am happy with the current motor/Purion controller settings. Does the torque increase mean that it will use more battery in any given assist setting? If so, it seems as if the range will decrease even if you use ECO for your whole ride. Is this true?

What Drive Unit and/or eBike do you have?

The torque increase on Gen4 DUs only affects Turbo mode, and eMTB mode (if applicable). All other support modes retain their original maximum torque value.

Thanks for your reply! I have the Active Line Plus on a Cannondale Neo 1 e-bike, so I guess this software update does not affect me. I have been having fun going down the torque/power rabbit hole trying to learn about how torque limits affect riding when applying high torques and low pedal cadences. I might have to buy a bike with the Performance Line and eMBT mode to experience this personally. ;)

Ah yes, you are correct! I'm glad you asked the question though, as I'd imagine others may have been wondering the same thing.

Is your bike a Trek? If so, the only other mode I know of is EMTB-Lite, which is a Trek-specific mode. EMTB-Lite takes the place of Touring mode though so it certainly wouldn’t fit into your <Eco model.
