BLEvo app working on Vado!!

On my 2020 Vado 4.0, BLEvo is not picking up my battery capacity correctly. It's saying 450 when mine is actually 504. Unfortunately this throws off its Watt-hour calculations by a bit. Anyone else?

I posted a query in the other forum but didn't get a response. But then he did write this for the Levo products and has no way to test it on a Vado.

That's interesting. My battery capacity says 592 when it should be 604 I believe. That's only 12 off though. I thought maybe that was the true battery capacity available over advertised. What does Mission Control say? From what I can tell, you and I are the only ones using BLEvo with the Vado.

I don't doubt more of us will give it a try, as soon as the few kinks you're pointing out are resolved.

I can't say it's a kink. I checked Mission Control. I don't see a reading for approximate battery capacity anywhere. I'm thinking that 592 might represent what is really available to user. The other 8 or 12 , depending if it's 600 or 604 may be unavailable to the user to protect the battery from being totally discharged. That's my assumption. When I look at my the RAM capacity of my smartphone it says total 3.8 GB. Yet it's advertised 4GB. What happened to the 200mb? I'm just saying. As far as I know the only feature that doesn't work is derestricting. Can't manipulate wheel size to by pass 45kph.

From one exchange with Paolo, he indicated that a reading less than the full capacity was due to the battery health being less than 100%, indicating its aging. However, that doesn't appear to be the case for you since you're at 100% and only 15 recharge cycles.

In my case, it looks to me like it's a matter of reading and recognizing some sort of ID from the battery, which might not be in the current app since it was not written to account for Vados, and 450 might be the default (the battery in the Vado 3 is 450Wh, and maybe that's the minimum size in the Levo line). I notice that you obscured the Serial Number field at the upper left. Note that in my monitor it doesn't seem to be reading that value, which might be the crux of the problem. I'll post another message to Paolo in eMTB and see if he responds this time.

I think you're right. Something is amiss. I blotted my serial number out. My serial number shows up in a few places in the app. Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall app? The default being 450 for Vados? I don't understand that part. At 100% charge mine is 592. I reason that is true capacity available before it dies. That would be against what others have suggested that the battery dies after 95% discharge (573). I don't intend to total discharge completely to find out. It would be nice if Mission Control showed total battery capacity. All it shows is Firmware for battery, motor and the Display. It doesn't seem right that Blevo isn't seeing your serial number. In that case, it appears to be a true "kink."

Is that the serial number of the battery or of the bike? How many digits? It doesn't look like it has room to display a long number in there.

Do you have Blevo version. 3.6.9? Upon opening the app my serial number is right there too under bike Setup. Clicking bike setup serial number shows again in top left corner. Underneath that is all the profile settings.

Odd. I do have 3.6.9 and my serial shows up on the main page, but not on the battery monitor display. I think there was one time where it displayed the correct values, including the 504Wh for just about a second before going back to the other values.

Did you ever mess around with wheel size? I never touched that setting. I've only experimented with motor assistance settings and set a few profiles like that. I never seen 600 or 604 anywhere except on Specialized/Incycle websites. I don't believe those values are accurate unless someone can prove them to be.

The phone thing is mostly just marketing. The memory will be a power of 2. Neither 3.8 nor 4 GB is a power of 2, but they're close enough for me to compare 4 vs 8 vs 16 GB, etc.

Power of 2? I did some research on the missing memory. Memory missing was allocated for crucial functions to the OS. Always less then actually advertised. Random Access Memory. Computer RAM does similar when allocating RAM.

This is Specialized advertising Vado battery as 600. Then somewhere else it's 604.

Specialized advertising Turbo Vado 4.0 as 500 not 504. So which one is it? Or neither? How do we know actual battery capacity? Take their word for it I guess.

Yep, power of two. Digital memory,1's and 0's. All available in increments of powers of two. Back in my days at what was then called Apple Computer the flagship Apple IIe computer could have up to 64K of RAM, but it actually had 2**16 = 65,536bytes of memory. Less was available to the user after programs were loaded. As you've pointed out, the same is true today.

Specialized is free. 2.7 Rating. BLEvo cost $9 or $10. 4.6 Rating. I've tried them both. I recommend not upgrading to Android 10 if you want apps to work properly. Android 9 all is well for me with both apps. No issues whatsoever. BLEvo is much better app by far because it offers much more functionality then MC. I'm not sure about previous versions of Android either. I can only speak to Android 9.

Latest geek stats. This is the first ride to Starbucks. Lot of pedaling unassisted. I also dropped peak power on ECO to 20 %. Average speed 13.2 over distance of 14.9 miles only used 12 % battery.

Dropped 19 % on the ride home. I used Trail and Turbo more. Average speed 14.6 mph. Distance 15.2 miles.

For those who might be interested in BLEvo. Here are latest stats on a 53 mile ride. I was very meticulous in monitoring. Making sure I paused, stopped and continue ride. All stats measured against the TCD-w display are spot on, except for two. Those two are calories burned and Total moving time. I was very careful monitoring the moving time . it appears to be off by almost 3 minutes. Also, wheel size in Mission Control list mine as 2255. What I did was changed it to exactly that in BLEvo and then converted it to inches. 88" exactly in BLEvo, 88.78 in Mission Control. Average Speed, Distance, Max Speed and battery consumed are accurate. This is over the course of a 53 mile ride. I am using Android 9. I also reported my findings to the developer for feedback.
