Belt Tension

I am replacing the rear tire of my Riese & Muller Supercharger Rohloff (2019 model). It’s my understanding that once I have fitted the new tire, I must ensure that belt tension is correct. Would anyone on this forum be able to advise me as to the correct belt tension as recommended by Reese & Muller for the above type of bike? The belt on my bike is a 150007 Riemen Gates CDX-Belt-108T 1. Thanks.

There are a few different ways to measure belt tension, we prefer a tool by Gates called a Krikit as we've found it's the most consistent - for a Rohloff bike, you'll want it at 15-18kg/28-40lbs. If you're using the phone app, shoot for 35-50Hz

That said, removing and reinstalling the rear wheel wouldn't do anything to effect belt tension - just make sure the belt is seated on the chainring and cog and you're good to go.

Thanks for your helpful advice.

I just changed the front and rear sprockets on my 2022 Homage w/E14 Rohloff but can't find any instructions for how to adjust the belt tension. Anyone have a clue?

Claude tells me there is no belt tension adjustment on the Homage. There's certainly no way to position the rear wheel further back in the drop outs as they are vertical. Claude says the spring-loaded tensioner near the front chaing ring maintains the belt tension. My LBS did a fine job of replacing the sprockets and belt, which I obtained from Modernbike.com. Alignment appears perfect and the bike rides like a new bike. After my two most recent rides I did notice a small almost "ticking" sound when I rolled the bike backwards. One full revolution of the crank arms going backwards produces 6 of these "ticking" sounds. It's not loud. It reminds me of the sound produced on a chain drive bike when one or more of the links are bound up. There's no jerk in the belt drive when the sound occurs, and it only occurs when rolling the bike backward. All new parts are Gates brand, and they are the right specifications for my Homage: 137 tooth belt, 60 tooth front sprocket, 19 tooth rear sprocket.

Has anyone else experience this? If so, what was the cause? I don't have a former R&M dealer within 200 miles of where I live. I'm posing the same question to PropelBikes in Brooklyn, the dealer who sold me the bike.
