BBSO2 low top speed

I have BBS02b middrive motor with 48V battery and my top speed is relatively low I can barely hit 35km/h(21.7mph) while pedalling. My front chainring is 48t and rear is 11-36 and my bike is 29er. What could be the problem? Something wrong with the programming?

I believe the BBS02 may come from the factory with a 20 amp max limit. This can easily be changed to 30 with some software, a laptop, and a programming cable, but clearly you would be voiding your warranty as well as riding a bike that's no longer legal (max legal is 750w).

Tons written on Bafang BBSxx programing. Just do a little searching.

Thanks I heard that 25A is the recommended max for BBS02. I think I need to get programming cable then.

BBSHD is usually set for 25, and the Ultra comes set to 30.....

Be careful here....... If you change that and manage to smoke it afterward, you're going to be on your dime.....

That fact leaves many wondering if they really need to go that fast....

Probably nothing to do with amps. Your wheel size is probably off just a bit and the top speed programed into the controller is probably 20 mph 32 kph Your bike should do about 28-29 mph for short bursts of speed.

The display shows the top speed limit is set at 9.9Km/ph! That is like four miles per hour.

What kind of battery do you have? Specifically, what cells?
Not all 48V are made the same.

I used to have 48V Samsung 26F and it wasn't nearly as good as 48V Samsung 35E in terms of performance.
I have Chamrider 24Ah 48V battery. I use same battery with my rearhub MXUS XF15 motor which max wattage is about 800-900 and it goes 45km/h.

Sorry. I now see it.
Okay. You can try the metric conversion trick.
Put the speed into K/ph and tell the bike it has 12" tires. The speed will be in Mph. So if it reads 25K/ph it will actually be 25 miles per hour.

if you get the special cable, one of the settings in the Bafang software on the PAS screen is speed limit.

It can be locked to a fixed value (in which case it will ignore your display's 99kph setting) or "by Displays command". You want the latter.

My Bafang (with a Bafang DPC-18 display) has both a built in ECO and SPORT (programmable via the cable) mode. I haven't figured out how to tweak the ECO mode. Difficult to to get much over 20mph in ECO so I use it to conserve battery mostly.

Did you try the "Metric Conversion" hack? How did it work?

So the answer is not max amps, but it is likely a controller set up issue....

Ok I installed throttle to the bike. It seems that if I'm pedalling it's restricted to that speed but with throttle I can go beyond that
What is the distance between the PAS sensor and the ring of magnets on the crank shaft? Can you send a photo?

Pretty sure the cadence sensor on a BBS02 is internal, no?

Plus, if it's working at all (at speeds up to 20mph) it's not going to stop working 20mph due to a distance issue....

You are correct. Something that I like about EBR is that it keeps me sharp with peer review and dealing with real world problems. I was lumping all cadence bikes together in my mind's categories without thinking and truly visualizing what is going on.
Some bikes are set-up in the firmware to go into Class 2 mode when a throttle is plugged in. But he is able to bypass that with the throttle! If the problem is tied to wheel speed then the Metric Conversion hack will increase his top end by 40%.

Yeah seems like on pas 9 I can get only the rated 750W out and with throttle I can go up to 1100-1200W.

The BBS02 controller has a rating of 25 amps and going above that will definitely smoke it. Not advisable at all.
My BBS02 is set to 20 amp max and I can reach 28+mph with a 46t front and 13-28 rear.
Check your top speed setting in both the programming via pc and on the display.
I know that changing it only on the display doesn't work if it is restricted on the program via pc. I have mine set to By Displays Command on page 2 of the program and 30mph on the 860c Display.
