Bafang BBSHD 4-wire bundle

This has to have been addressed or mentioned somewhere, but I haven't found it. My recently delivered BBSHD from Bafang USA has a 4-wire bundle wrapped together in a sleeve coming out of the motor with the other known cables. I had read when researching this motor that some have a 2-wire bundle for a headlight, but it's even hard to find a pic or wiring diagram that even shows this 2-wire headlight bundle. As a newcomer to the ebike format, I've tried to read a ton of material and reports. I probably missed it, but I've not seen mention of this 4-wire bundle. Is it possibly a head and tail light wire set with 4 wires? Something else? These are very small gauge wires.

I think you're referring to a 4 wire harness (1T4) vs. a 5 wire (1T5). The 5 contains a very low amperage head light lead designed to support LED headlights only, that's switched using the "up" button. I am NOT sure if the BBSxx motors support the 5 wire. You'll need to find somebody at a higher pay grade for that question! -Al

Depending on version and production date I believe that the gear sensor and front lamp are options.

Regarding the 5 wire harness compatibility, that plug labeled "E" above would need to be a 9 pin.

Curious, wondering if the light leads showing in the above pic are switched, or just power to be routed to a switch? Amperage capacity?

Further (last), if we were working on a Bafang hub drive, the controller (not made/supplied by Bafang) would be the 4 vs. 5 wire harness determining factor. -Al

The wires are switched through the display with a 500ma capacity. Good enough for basic LED lights but I tucked them and ran my own switch and tapped the battery as I wanted an easy to operate horn and light
