baby trailer

I am trying to figure out how to connect a baby trailer to my rear hub electric bike? I have inquired several times to electric bike dealers and they do not seem to know the best answer.. My wife and I would like to take our grandaughter on a ride, however, safety is our prime concern when attaching one...
Any suggestions?

what brands of trailer and ebike? This would be a good question to ask on the two wheeling tots Facebook page and the pedal parents Facebook group. Most trailers use a hitch cup, receiver, or coupler, you can bolt onto either a quick release or nutted axle, you don't have to use the through-axle skewer. If you have a recessed dropout you can use a stack of spacers until the mounting plate is clear like this. Or this hitch for Burley trailers clamps onto the seatstay. And there are special hitches for long-tail cargo bikes.

I use the one in Dewey's picture, also with a skewer mount, as my trailer bike uses a mid motor. Not shown in the picture is a canvas safety strap that will support the trailer arm if the skewer came loose.

With a rear hub, what side are the wires? Best on the right side. Are there enough threads on the left side to spin on an extra nut, washer and the above axle hitch? If I had to do it, I could put one on my rear motor ebike using the present nuts on the axle, but I would worry more.

What I find disconcerting about a trailer is that unless going up a hill, I can't feel the 40 lbs of extra weight, especially with an ebike. I don't have mirrors, but wish I had them to check that the grandkid is still in the trailer. If my wife follows me, the grand kid likes to lean out the side and yell back. I been thinking, take out the screened rear panel.

We rent a child trailer and child seats at our Pedego store. Most babies are put in the seats, mounted to the bars or the rear of our cargo bike. They're rated for 35 lbs or something like that. Bigger kids can be put in the trailer.

Our trailer has a mount that slips onto the rear axle. The hole was slightly too small for our ebike axles, so we bored it out. There's plenty of material left, so it's still strong. Works great!

We ordered a Burley for a customer who wanted something with suspension. It's mount had a large enough hole for our axles, but if I remember correctly, older Burleys (2014?) didn't.

How old is the baby? A popular child seat, provided you have a rear rack capable of carrying 55lb, is the Thule Yepp seat with a Thule Yepp Maxi EasyFit adapter necessary for rack mounted batteries, but I wouldn't put a baby in it, Thule suggest from 9 months and older.
