Auto Electronic Shifting A Blast!!

Since getting my Evelo Aurora I have been riding in the manual mode turning the shifter when needed and just kind of forgot about the electronic side of things got so used to it. Yesterday was a beautiful 65 degree sunny day here on the Oregon coast so decided to head out and get some of the winter dust off. When I started out in my usual level 1 assist and was cruising along at an easy 18 mph I realized I never push the silver auto button on the hub control so just gave it a try. As I was rolling along didn't notice any difference and then realized I was getting assistance because I had begun a grade of just a few percent. Wow it was a weird feeling , the bike just senses any change in grade and automatically puts in assist with no input from me. I just keep the same cadence and it does it's thing.
Being fairly new to the E bike thing I find this amazing! When I got the bike I read about it and got the upgraded model to 750W and the auto hub etc. thinking if I needed it I 'd have it but most likely wouldn't. Well I was wrong on that point it's great. When I leave my subdivision gates and hit the road only 50 ft or so out the gates is a pretty substantial hill, about 14% and a quarter mile long. Most if not all bikes I see are walking up the grade, with the exception of the barely moving and swinging side to side mega riders all decked out. I went up sitting on the saddle with not a tremendous amount of effort. I just put the auto in it's max setting. I tried going up with the bike turned off just to see if I could do it, NO WAY! didn't even make it 1/4 of the hill, Killer!
So people going by in cars think I am Superman, LOL, wow that old dude is in shape! If they only knew, I am really loving this E bike thing, still get exercise but not so much that I don't ride from fatigue. A 10 mile ride to the store and back is fun and I feel great when I get back.
I don't know much about how this hub works really and don't much care other than the fact it does, but I can only imagine the E bikes in the next few years and what they will be able to do. This stuff sure is fun!!!!

Good write up, so I took a look. Very impressive, but out of my price range. Maybe in a couple of years others will go to that system, bringing the price down

Now if we could just get one that will shift gears automatically, my wife will buy it!

Thanks for the update. I'm sure I would like that hub as well. Maybe next bike. ;)

I have a Fully Loaded Galaxy ST being delivered in a couple of days. Same NuVinci Harmony auto rear hub, only lower power and belt drive. I'm going to check it out and then decide what our second bike will be. I thought it would be the Aurora, but I'm not liking the fork. I want to be able to put a nice basket on it. Since the Aurora has a lower battery placement, I'll just put the basket on the rear rack for groceries and mail...

Whichever model the service is excellent, my first was the Galaxy TT and just couldn't' deal with the top tube, dang near fell over a few times trying to get off gracefully...only problem I had was battery rattle in the frame, rear rack, not a big deal but annoying. I replaced it with the Aurora and I love it. Super fast bike I must say. Rarely get out of level 1 because cruising at easy pedal puts me at 18+ mph. I have mine set to 28 mph but man that is flying so don't do it much. Good luck on the new bike. Mine has the chain and 700 W probably overkill..

Mine has the Enviolo Nuvinci system I think the new model for the 2019 year is coming with a fully automatic transmission a little different on the new bikes, probably more advanced , has a different looking control than mine which is a 2018 made in the old plant they have moved production now to the new plant.

I'm also looking at a CERO One. I don't really need or want a lot of power. I have nowhere to be and all day to get there. The Cero has an attractive range and nice options for going to the store and Post Office. They, too, have excellent communication and feedback. I really enjoyed my experience with Evelo and they have set the customer service bar pretty high. How is the feeling of the battery mounting on a Galaxy and Aurora compare? I think I prefer a lower center of gravity than having a rear rack mounted battery?

Sounds to me like the newer NuVinci Harmony internal hub does exactly that. Both the Galaxy and Aurora Fully Loaded models feature that new auto shifting hub.
