2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

A couple of pics from today's 17km ride. The photo of the turkey was taken before I even got out of my yard.

GCN comparo: Dogma X the endurance bike vs. Dogma F the racer...

Commenters were asked which they prefer. The X was way ahead in the comments I read (maybe a quarter of them).

Not sure what "mistake" the title's talking about. YouTube titles have really degenerated in the last few years, and GCN's following the trend. Even respectable channels like Veritasium are moving to deceptive click-bait titles now. Very sad.
I don't either. I can say that when an older rider wants to buy a new F, we will suggest looking at an X. If you have to stack a ton of spacers under the stem of an F to be comfortable, you are better off on an X.

I don't know why they call the X an "allroad" bike. It's not sold as such, or advertised as such. Just because it can fit 35mm tires doesn't make it an allroad bike. It may be a bit less pointy at the head of the spear than an F, but it was designed as a fast road bike, and it rides like one.

Not sure what "mistake" the title's talking about.
Many people buy a racing bike while they actually need an All-Road one. I can remember a man from one of the cycling channels who was cursing himself for buying a "Tadej Pogacar's Colnago" while what he really loved to ride was an All-Road bike at the half of the price :)

Besides, all major formats of this years Unbound Gravel were won by Specialized riders on Crux 5, not long ago an All-Road bike, now, a racing gravel bike :)

Returned with Bri to Sunderland point with the intenetion of riding the headland and actually getting to the nuclear reactor.

Imagine getting cut off twice a day

Tide gauge on the house, well theres your problem said the damp course engineer.

Older than Murica

There were lots of these lines of stones

Bri decided to try the sand instead

The Levo glided over this gravel
dcmm8.jpg

Much asking of locals pointed us to this footpath
dcmm9.jpg

It ran out at a 30ft drop, Bri went for the descent, I rode through the empty caravan site
dcmm10.jpg

He pushed 90% of it over mud and boulders
dcmm11.jpg

At last, two reactors here which hold the world record for continous operation without shutdown.
dcmm12.jpg

They are advanced gas cooled reactors and have made 115Twhs so far, in August 2019 it started making huge bangs as it auto restarted from an electricl fault.
The locals put their heads between their knees and kissed their arses googbye
dcmm13.jpg

The cooling water channels are epic, thats a strong flow like a heavy river between large steel walls set in the mud.
dcmm14.jpg

The second one looks apocalyptic in person with the desolate background
dcmm15.jpg

This is where the large ferries to Ireland and the Isle of Man depart from, rather miserable large scale industrial

The dredger guys were play fighting while the captain waved to us, what jobs some people have

Unexpected BRIDGEs Ride

As I saw the Ed's post mentioning the deer, I recollected what I could see on last night's BRIDGEs gravel ride in Warsaw. Herds of big wild boars crossed our path twice! Fortunately, those beasts knew how to behave and vacated the trail just before we got there!

Wild boars are a plague in Poland right now, especially in big cities. I think it will go down to hunting permits, especially as the animals do damage to the city infrastructure. Meanwhile, people learned living together with those big black pigs :) If there is any attack, it mostly pertains to the dog owners walking their aggressive pets. As for me and my mate, we gladly ignored those wild boars, and the beasts ignored us :)

MOSTy (BRIDGEs) is a unique urban gravel trail along the Vistula in Warsaw. Why a BRIDGEs ride on a cold Tuesday night as the club rides are on Mondays? A new member (female) joined our club's chat on WhatsApp yesterday. She is unable to ride on Mondays, so she asked if anyone would like to join her on any ride for Tuesday night. The club members said 'Ride the proper MOSTy route' but no-one wanted to join her (it is mostly the bike trainer for them during the cold season). She mentioned her typical average speed -- and that was a racing speed! I wrote:

-- 'I'd love to introduce you to MOST-y but you are riding too fast as for me!'
-- 'Give it a try!'
-- 'I'm 65 and an electric, any issue?'
-- 'Do you ride an electric bike or are an electrician? :D'
(General laughter)
-- 'Agreed! It's 19:00 at the Mermaid!'

Oh, that woman was good! She could actually ride at racing speeds off-road at night. She was nice, polite, and grateful for the company, so she rode at my pace (which was already limited by my poor eyesight). For me, it was a refreshing ride filled with fresh air and adrenaline -- way better than growing sluggish in my flat!

I'm sure Marysia will fit the gravel cycling club as the hand fills a glove! She rode for 75 km on that night.

50.0 km for the night.

Anyone who posts youtube vids.
I noticed analytics has changed to insights.
Clicked on and you now get an AI breakdown of a video in the most excrutiating detail that gives away the level of automated analysis that is spreading around the world.

A minute by minute description of a videos performance and the factors they use to judge its performance.

Its like a days session at a paid PR consultation..

Your video started with a ligh hearted but engaging ride over a coffee house roof followed by a slow turn panorama, this was seen by the 20-30 age group that you are willing to entertain but also have empathy with nature, which is a popular draw with your subscribers over a large age range.
Engagement dropped in that group as you climbed the bridleway, but casual realistic banter kept picking it up.
The 50-60 age group re engaged with the summit scenery scan and your authentic banter...

It goes on like that till the end.

I feel.like posting...why dont you make it for me the...oh yes, you can.

Life has gotten in the way of a lot of things lately, but I finally got a ride in this afternoon. The fall colors are past peak by now. but it was sunny and unseasonably warm, there won't be many more days this nice this year.

The state forest entrance is about a mile from my house...

Mostly the forest road is gravel and sand with some larger rocks like the above picture, tricky to ride because the leaves hide the rocks. However, on one stretch the DEP has smoothed it and added some new stone in areas were the puddles were getting big enough to fish in (not really):

I came out of the forest with a little under a mile to go on a paved road in a rural residential area...

...until I reach the airport. About 7½ miles total, half of that on the forest roads.

My other toy was waiting in the hangar.

It was a beautiful day to fly, and I spent an hour just wandering around with no real destination (that's the Salmon River down there). I landed at Salmon River Airfield and took off again before returning to my home airport just before sunset...

...and a chilly ride back home as it got dark.

A very nice afternoon.

A very nice afternoon.
Nicely done sir!
Hoping you can get out some more soon!

Theres flying and theres flying.
Solo in a biplane vs a cattle class , switchback queue, passport control biometrics holiday flight.

Id love a float plane actually, though mine would probably sink

It was a gorgeous 67 degree day on the Cape yesterday, so I took a ride on a different trail in Falmouth, the Shining Sea, with a coworker from the shop. He was on a Pinarello Grevil, and I was on the Dogma X. 30 miles, very windy, beautiful bright sunshine. Here are a few shots.
