In other news Ireland beat world champions India in T20 cricket last night. For context about 15,000 (men) play cricket in clubs in Ireland, about 10 million men play cricket in clubs in India. And I'm astonished we have 15,000 playing cricket, I thought it was more likely to be around 120 and a dog. It's a tiny sport in Ireland never stops raining enough for a 5 day test!!

Theres a popular cricket ground down the road from me, in the northern towns the Indians and Pakistanis are playing in immaculate facilities.

Off to Chester Zoo tomorrow, theres a bridleway right through the middle of it, probably well fenced off, but worth a look, its the UKs biggest wildlife attraction and gloriously opened by George Mottershead.
It was voted on Trip advisor as the third best zoo in the world.

So bike failed me again on the Cheshire ride just yards from the van luckily.
So I got serious, pulled out my watch repair eyeglasses and a bright torch.
The two main power pins in the cable are like mini banana plugs, four sprung loops that press against the battery pin.
One of them had two of the loops bent in, so I eased them out with a tiny screwdriver and cleaned a few bits of pitting you couldnt see normally.
Worked straight away.
Also found tiny bits of steel wool in the sockets and around the battery plug.
Went around and eased all the loops out a bit and cleaned everything.
See how it goes.
Going to check Garys for loop damage after his packed in from a tiny impact.
Its just a ridiculous place for such a sensitive plug

First ever 100 miler completed using just 1 gear!
I was planning to get out yesterday but with gusts nudging 45mph it was a no go, today it was still very windy but safe enough for a ride! Last night I planned a ride down to Peebles but on checking the weather forecast this morning I quickly ruled that out! The weather forecast for the east of the country was looking much better so I chose to ride up the east coast and go as far as I could on battery 1 before heading into the 30-35mph westerly wind! I made my way out to Winchburgh enjoying that excellent tailwind, it would have been so much better if my gears had been working of course! With 3 batteries on board the bike wasn't getting flipped upside down to change to a climbing gear so I just left it in the same gear all day!
After passing through Winchburgh I turned north for Newton and stopped for a couple of photos of the Pentland Hills!
I stopped at Newton for this photo of the Forth bridges!
Heading on to the Forth road bridge, the left hand bike lane has been closed for months but I was more than happy to ride on the right hand lane as it gave a little bit more protection from the strong crosswinds!
After crossing the bridge I headed up the coast to Burntisland, passing through Aberdour where I had the 16% climb to tackle! I stopped for photos at the top of the climb!

From Burntisland I continued up the coast to Kinghorn where I looped back to Burntisland, passing Kinghorn Loch where I took this photo! I changed to battery 2 at the 50 mile mark, ready for the big climb up to Mossmorran! Its just under 2 miles with an average gradient of 5% but throw in a 30mph headwind and it really gets the heart pumping!
This is just a little part of the climb!

Now it was a very nice descent, this is from the bottom looking back up!
I decided not to go all the way up to Mossmorran and opted to take the back road to the western side of Aberdour, it included this lovely descent!
I then made my way west to Inverkeithing and Rosyth and took the coast road to Limekilns, grabbing a few photos on the way!
Then it was up the short sharp cobbled climb into Charlestown and on to the cycle path to Crombie! Then I joined the coast road through Torryburn, Newmills, Low Valleyfield and Culross before heading for Kincardine Bridge! One last photo on the way, I just love this road!
I reached Kincardine bridge with 74 miles covered and took my usual roads through Falkirk and Slamannan, up the final big climbs with battery 3 almost full so I got to use assist 3 to make the climbs a breeze!
Now for the best part, I had noticed there was a bike repairer in my home town that had rave reviews and he was less than a mile from home so I decided to drop in on him and ask about fixing my bike! Long story short I have my bike back with a full complement of gears again, I spoke with him around 2pm and by 7pm the bike was up and running! 
He only wanted £25 for the job but I offered him my excellent bike stand as payment and he was more than pleased to accept it, I bought it about a decade ago and it was way too good for what I wanted to use it for and it had been sitting in my attic for many years! It looks brand new, I think I used it about half a dozen times...
I'm sure he will be more than happy to help me in the future and I won't hesitate for sure! I have a basic stand that suits my purposes just fine! I just need the weather to improve now, its looking awful for the next few days....

I could count the number of people who'd willingly attempt that — even on an ebike — on the fingers of my 3rd hand. Sooooo @RabH !

Unbelievable Rab! If my shifter broke 10 miles from home and I could only use only one gear, I'd be whining like a three-year-old, turning around and hoping that I could make it home, and you go out and do a hundred miler with 6000+ feet of climbing. Definitely an alien life-form until proven otherwise! P.S. Glad to hear that you now have it fixed so that you can get on to two hundred milers.

Yes I'm not normal...
When I went to see the guy I was expecting him to say bring it up in a week or so, instead he said just leave your bike here and I'll give you a lift home and start it right away...I was completely stunned! At that point I noticed I was at 99.4 miles so I had a quick tour of his neighbourhood to get the 100 up!Funnily enough my younger brother said I was an alien!
I stuck it on the 4th cog, I was thinking about 3 but 4 let me get a good speed up on the flat and downhills...not that there was much flat...
It did make the bigger climbs that bit harder though...Thanks guys, I forgot to mention I also passed 4000 miles yesterday which blows my mind after a rubbish June!
