2025 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Korboloza Bolimoza Ultimatoza
(An Ultimate Gravel Group Ride in Bolimów Landscape Park)

As I started riding in Bolimów Landscape Park already in March 2021 (so I amassed enormous experience), and the area has become my favourite "gravel cycling heaven", I decided to create the ultimate route leading through all interesting places in the Park, longer than 100 km, and with no closed loops.

I completed the planning last week. Tommy verified the Loop A on Friday by his own ride. I invited many gravel cyclists... I had to compete with an enormous gravel group ride happening in Kampinos National Park on the same day... (Admire the elegance of my route: only leading through green areas, 65/35 unpaved/asphalt. and no closed loops!)

I was lucky to attract five riders. L to R: Marek, Jędrzej, Tommy, Piotr, and Szymon (Jędrzej's brother). Obviously, I was the sixth rider :)

A small river, the Chojnatka. Any river, despite how small, requires a bridge!

In 19th c., two villages (one in Mazovia and one in the today's Land of Łódź) decided to rename themselves to Jeruzal (for Jerusalem) in the hope of attracting pilgrims and their money :) The Mazovian Jeruzal, its grocery store selling cheap "Mamrot" wine, was the place where a popular TV series "Rancho" was filmed. Here, we are in the wrong Jeruzal :) Besides, both grocery stores were closed and we had to pedal as far as to Puszcza Mariańska to find an operating convenience shop!

At the 40th kilometre by Jesionka train stop, Tommy stopped the group, shook hands with each participant as if saying his goodbyes, and made that speech: "I would like to thank you guys for joining the ride! It was my greatest pleasure to complete the Loop A together with you! Yes... the same Loop I verified for you on last Friday... Now we can all continue riding together until the finish line!" :D What a prank! People were rolling from laughter!

However, Tommy was punished soon. He caught a flat, and we worked on the wheel together. Meanwhile the remaining four communicated with us and rode to Puszcza restaurant in Bolimów.

Brothers Jędrzej and Szymon were in hurry. They sped up to Skierniewice Rawka and completed their ride at the 70th kilometre. Meanwhile, Marek ordered food for us (hamburgers and/or chips/fries). (The name of the restaurant means 'Wilderness').

The day albeit being cold (4 C) was windless and with a lot of sunshine. We didn't take pictures while riding but Marek asked for some photos at the fire-road #40 to demonstrate the colours of Autumn :)

Obviously, we were skylarking with Tommy :D

In Skierniewice-Rawka, 70th km. Marek was already in hurry, same with Piotr. We let those strong riders ride to Nieborów on their own very fast, while I and Tommy decided to ride "in our own time" (we were indeed riding fast!). The irony is Marek and Piotr -- while making their proper number of kilometres -- altered the route for their own convenience :) (In gravel racing, it means a DSQ) :)

Believe it or not but we only visited the Italian restaurant in Nieborów to buy a litre of mineral water for Tommy! :)

And so, we two as the only people of the group had properly completed the Ultimate route in Skierniewice!

t was a great day. The trip was never banal but it was not overly technically difficult, and we were blessed by a beautiful weather!

P.S. The only irritating thing was the cassette of my big Vado became worn. It has undergone several individual small sprocket replacements. Now, the new cassette is waiting in my cabinet to be eventually used!

Charge, your British humor combined with those insane rides you do certainly keep us on our toes. Keep it up!

Electronic sarcasm can be difficult to detect, but I thought that the question was relevant. No matter how you attached the battery to the frame, could a second full sized battery be attached to the charge port via a charge cable, and would the system controller recognize it? I don't get a lot of exposure to Brose systems.

No it cannot be done.

A Pharmacy Ride with Tommy

The first thing I did in the morning was installing a brand new cassette on my big Vado.

It was long overdue!

I also received a pair of Endura MT500 Burner Flat Waterproof, warm and watertight cycling shoes, the platform pedal version (the SPD version is made, too). I swear by these shoes now!

Next, Tommy came to visit me. I have tons of gear I simply don't use and which would otherwise clog my flat. I installed a rear SKS Germany Speedrocker mudguard on his bike (the mudguard does not fit my Vado SL on 42 mm tyres). I also lent him my Polar OH-1 wrist HR monitor (beta blocker controls my HR...) I jokingly asked Tommy if he would assist me on my ride to the pharmacy and it went ballistic :D

What a nice day it was! (We indeed did visit the pharmacy!) :)

Probably seems a bit silly, but I like your two-tone gears, Stefan! That’s cool.

A nice day for a recovery ride after last Thurday's epic, back to fingerless gloves with a temp of 14C and light winds! It was very damp and misty in the morning so I waited until 11.30am before setting off on drier roads in cloudy conditions! I made my way down to Garrion Bridge in the Clyde Valley and used the valley road out to Hamilton before heading up the big climb through the town! Part way up the climb I took the back road to Strathaven, with lots of ups and downs and twists and turns to enjoy!

The first descent, the next climb can be seen in the background and the road is like this for miles!

1760984529847.jpeg

Eventually the road flattens out for a bit before this 12% climb!

1760984657565.jpeg

At the top of the climb I had a nice view of the hills in the distance!

1760984774439.jpeg

I arrived in Strathaven and took the B8073 road to Kirkmuirhill, another amazing road which is very twisty and very undulating! The first big descent is awesome before the road ramps up into the village of Sandford! I took the path for a bit to grab a couple of photos!

1760985035843.jpeg

The twisty descent!

1760985060193.jpeg

1760985072900.jpeg

Part way up the climb to Sandford, this is looking back down the hill!

1760985107382.jpeg

I continued along the B8073 passing through Deadwaters and Boghead, the descent at Boghead is a highlight on this road and the final descent into Kirkmuirhill is a fast one! At Kirkmuirhill I joined the B7086 road towards the Clyde Valley at the Lanark end, the descent down into the valley at the start of the road is very steep and extremely fast but near the bottom the road has a very tight hairpin which requires full concentration with leaves all over the road and another steep turn!

1760985612091.jpeg

After all the descending it was time to start climbing again, the climb up through Auchenheath is a tough one! I then took the back road to Crossford which I have only ridden in the opposite direction before and its a real beast of a climb! This time it was going to be a huge descent and this was the start of it!

1760986464199.jpeg

Part way down I had these stunning views of the Clyde Valley below!

1760986577098.jpeg

1760986594458.jpeg

The final part of the descent into Crossford is a bit scary due to the state of the road, this is why I usually climb it instead...but I slowed right down and took it easy! I was now on the valley road and heading for Hazelbank where the climbing starts again before a nice descent into Kirkfieldbank! I crossed the River Clyde a short time later and stopped for a couple of photos before taking on the toughest climb of the day up into Lanark!

1760986925084.jpeg

1760986938322.jpeg

I stopped near the top of the climb and walked down to grab this photo looking across the valley! One day soon I will take on that big climb in the background again, its a real beast...

1760986990016.jpeg

At Lanark I turned north for Harelaw, yet more climbing but it was worth it for these views!

1760987382800.jpeg

Tinto Hill!

1760987407534.jpeg

The Pentland Hills!

1760987430268.jpeg

1760987443155.jpeg

1760987454805.jpeg

1760987465717.jpeg

1760987480682.jpeg

1760987493489.jpeg

I continued north for another couple of miles before taking the back road towards Yieldshields, then over the back road to Carluke before heading up the climb to Allanton! Then it was the big climb up through Hareshaw and the final 5 miles to home using the main road! I could probably have picked an easier ride after the 130 miler but where's the fun in that? 😂 Another cracking ride, I'm so blessed to have such amazing roads so close to home! We had a real cold spell recently but it was all change today, very mild for October but colder weather is coming again this coming weekend when our clocks go back 1 hour and the dark early evenings will be back again...
