Had a lovely ride to Hale today, this is a picture postcard village in Liverpool next to the river and the John Lennon airport, yes our airport is named after a Beatle.
Its truly delicious, but there's one problem, the landing jets fly over it all day and scare the beejeezus out of you.
Its rammed with oddities and lots of 'I made my money, look at me and my house'
There's is a trail down to the river edge and an absolutely splendid trail along the coast past the airport that is quite challenging
What goes down must go up, and I had to carry the bike up these , they are much steeper than it looks with the wide angle lens.
Came around the corner and bumped into this guy, we talked for 45 minutes, he had just retired from Jaguar cars and had lost 8 stone after gastric surgery, he was on exactly
the same page as me, lived for his incredible dual hub Chinese malarkey thing.
1300 quid, 800wh, 2x1000W motors, I had a go on it, very heavy but the suspension felt really good and tbh the welds and brakes and wiring were all spot on.
He had sold his car, bought a van, stopped holidaying abroad and was just exploring England, he's aware it illegal and was going to convert it to pedal assist only and set the
speed to 15mph, hes very unfit and still overweight, but its released him into a new life.
Being a local he took he gave me a guided tour, and to show off his bike as well.
This is actually the landing lights gantry which reaches out into the river.
We are right at the waters edge here, this is the slip way for the Liverpool sailing club.
He showed me a path to the gorgeous 15th century Tudor Speke hall.
It was absolutely kept going by the slave trade and successive descendants used their profits from the transatlantic trade to upkeep and extend the property.
This inside courtyard is just magical in person
This guy is as posh and educated as he looks.
The windows are every shape possible except square
Riding back to the van I found this little hamlet of cute cottages, they have the airport landing lights in their gardens and a full size jet overhead every twenty minutes.
The whole day was a bit surreal, every conversation was interrupted by the scream of taking off or landing jets over the most unlikely scenery and houses.
I could have ridden the area all day and will probably go back.
