2025 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

PIEROGI

The first thing I did in the morning was a ride to the local polling station to cast a vote for the President of Poland. Don't ask me about the election result. The public is strongly polarized, and we might be condemned to a brute, fraud, drug addict and a gangster for the next five years...

Next, I rode to the other side of the Kampinos National Park (KPN) for lunch :)

"Following the flavour trail". Gościniec na szlaku (The Inn On The Trail) is a cyclist friendly restaurant in Palmiry.

So many signs against alcohol? :) Oh well, the fridge contains both non-alcoholic and regular ales there!

Żur (Zhur) was my soup of choice. It is sour thick and nourishing soup full of white sausage and boiled egg based on fermented bread.

@BlackHand: To my surprise, I could get pielmieni as well! I asked, and got it confirmed: these are little pork-filled dumplings served in broth.

Pierogi Ruskie. The staple Polish food was made with potato only filling (no curd), making it proper vegan food if you didn't ask for bacon :)

Pork Chop made with Coca Cola is the specialty of the restaurant. I heard other people were delighted, and will definitely try it in the future!

Sunday was a hot day. 27 C is high as for Poland. My original plan for the return was making a long loop on the roads. Eventually, I decided I would ride in the forest to hide myself from the sunshine! I made a promise already a long time ago: Never ride inside KPN during the warm season (as the forest roads get full of sand). However, Komoot promised the "yellow" hike trail to be hardpacked and easy, so I took the plunge. I need to admit it was very little sand on the route!

It could be garlic, IDK.

A dilapidated gangway across the Debłe Marshes. According to the sign, you need to walk your bike there.

Zaborowski Canal flowing through the marshes. I was reminded by Strava I was already there in March 2023, and the trail had been crossed by 25 e-bikers with Strava :)

Charming Street in my neighbourhood. I swear, that's the name! :D

Sympathy for that result Stefan. Your own mini Trump. Tusk will have his hands full now. I'm sick of waking up to crap election results.

I'm going to have a look at some bikes tomorrow, anything with the Gen 5 bosch and removable battery.
Get the 750w update 100nm.
Going to start spending my money before they take it off me for a submarine

Please take it not as an offence but a remark from a friend:
One of your biggest delusions is a belief a stronger motor will make you a better cyclist :) How many 20+% grade singletrack inclines do you take on your usual adventure ride? It is a person that rides a bike. Bikes ride people in the Soviet Russia (and in some other countries I decline to mention) :D

They are planning war, our PM is going all Churchill fight them on the beaches.
These are the worst days.

Could be worse.

Nice. A Holocaust denier…
He was certainly supported by a genuine Holocaust denier, one Grzegorz Braun (also a candidate). While I didn't hear that part of the new Resident's past during his campaign, him being a fraud, a thief, a gangster, a pimp etc. would be enough. He won by just a 360 thousand votes margin! Note: The Polish presidential elections are direct (unlike the American ones) so it was 50.89 : 49.11. The rogue won in the United States and Canada by a greater margin!

Well, I won’t be visiting your fair country any time soon, Stefan.
Don't you think your great country has a similar problem? Not that I make any excuses.

I’ve tried to explain to some of the flag-wavers on my deadend rural road that Nationalism is the opposite of Patriotism. I even showed them underlined passages in Orwell’s short essay “On Nationalism.” But these ‘True Believers’ (Hoffer) are impervious to reason…I’ll stop and comment on my lovely 16 mile ride to the Post Office (that service is crumbling due to DJT).
The bird(s) of the morning were two Pileated Woodpeckers that flew across the road while I was shouting “Hola” to the migrants digging in fiber optic cable.

I dont want to be a better cyclist, I want an easier ride and and a baseball bat and a budgie tshirt.
Please be aware the stronger motor also makes falling off a cliff a way faster :D
Your riding mates certainly don't use monster motors?

Here is a comment of a senior woman, a friend of my late friend Jerzy:
"I made a choice as dictated by the Decalogue, which I try to follow despite human imperfection. WE WINNED!" (note the spelling)
It is impossible to talk to a fanatic.
