And this is what it looks like.

Found an electric delivery mopedbikethingy with a box that could fit me in it.

I did 23 miles today. Rode a route that was about half new to me. A few new sites, some old farm implement at a nice looking place, a couple of old barns. The last pic was a road I had ridden down with a nice tail wind. At one point my range said 25 miles after riding into a head wind. Once I turned the corner and got the tail wind it said 50 miles at one point.

We are back at our family's ranch in Central British Columbia and relieved to find clear skies. My daughter and son-in-law have noticed several grizzly bears in the area so I give a long blast on my marine horn before entering narrow wooded trails. Tomorrow I will head higher up with the Levo searching for

some of my favorite blueberry patches.

Greetings From Gdańsk/Danzig!

The birthplace of Pan/Herr Fahrenheit, and the city of the astronomer Hevelius, among others.

Fahrenheit was born in a German family when Gdańsk was the part of the Crown of Poland. Both parents ate poisonous fungi and died when Daniel Gabriel was 15. He moved to the Netherlands for the rest of his life.

A nice easy ride this beautiful morning down the Rhododendron trail, and through the county park with the same name (the island is thick with wild Rhododendron!):

A sun-dappled wooded trail through the park:

Then out the other side, along some rural roads to the beach:

Continued along the shore road to Fort Casey, then back across the island to the town of Coupeville, where we began.

No better way to spend a sunny summer morning on the beautiful Isle of Whidbey 😍!

Had a nice ride out this morning. Found a new park in Milton Keynes that I wasn’t aware of, so had a quick explore. Will have to go back with Mrs DG for further exploration.

Tried some padded bib tights today for the first time and found them to be very comfortable.

What a drastic turnaround in weather conditions as we went from a searing 33 C two days ago to below average overnight temps of 4 C. Rain showers arrived yesterday but we still managed to fit in a 20km ride before the wind gusts and showers had us retreating back to home base with our tails between our legs.

The situation improved greatly today as the sun made a welcome appearance even though cooler conditions prevailed. Today’s afternoon ride involved a 60km loop from home through to the hamlet of Penhold and back along rural back roads. With a section of our intended route blocked due to road construction, we were forced to double back on RR 270 and detour along the Delburne Road (Hwy 595) west where we would eventually get back onto the MacKenzie Road and complete our loop returning home along Hwy 42 and the C & E Trail as planned.

One of several roadies who we came across on today’s outing despite the windy conditions.

The staff of life. A striking crop of golden wheat stands upright in this field along RR 273 heading south.

Just outside of the town of Penhold, we head west along an overpass and glance down on the busiest highway in the province, the QE2 which runs south to north between Calgary and Edmonton.

A large dairy operation which is quite visible along the C & E Trail reminds me that this weekend coincides with Alberta Open Farm Days when local producers, ranchers, market gardens in neighboring communities showcase their products to the public. It’s a great way to connect with farmers, experience ag-tourism and understand where our food comes from.

Down the homestretch and a well-deserved post stretch after a gusty ride.

Gdańsk Day 2
After casual sightseeing of the Main City of Gdańsk (the most beautiful historical part, Główne Miasto/Rechtstadt), we quite incidentally hit the Craft Beer Fiesta we had been completely unaware of!

FB_IMG_1692518953385.jpg

We even met a friend from London there!

20230819_200755-01.jpeg

The brewer Darek of Artezan made me laugh! 🤣

20230819_200252-01.jpeg

A bar with 16 taps, only premiere top-end Ales and Stout. A craft beer pub around in case you wanted more!

20230819_134219-01.jpeg

At The Bowke. (Bowke or bówka was either a seaport hoodlum or a street urchin in the old Gdańsk/Danzig). We are about to ritually drink Machandel, the unique Gin of Danzig. There is a procedure when and how the infused dried plum on a toothpick should be eaten, how to handle the stone, how to drink and what to do with the spent toothpick. The waiter will gladly describe it to you!

20230819_134633-01.jpeg

Eventually, you spit the stone into the glass, ceremonially break the toothpick with your fingers and leave it in the glass. The breaking the toothpick is believed to mimic a sailor mutiny during which angry sailors were breaking yards on the tall-ship.

Note: Goldwasser (containing genuine gold flakes) is even more famous vodka of Gdańsk but there is no magic in it. Machandel is very special! (Currently, it is made in Osnabrück, Germany).

The Hanseatic Gdańsk. Long Market and Green Gate.

The river Motława waterfront.

Gdańsk with other parts of the Tricity (Sopot and Gdynia) is a vibrant colourful seaside area that is just fantastic to see by a foreigner during the Summer. Sand beaches are just a bonus 😊

Thankfully the winds abated here today so I got another 50 miler in the bag, mainly all back roads and very little traffic! :D I didn't really have a route in mind today, I was just sort of freestyling as you will probably see from my crazy shaped map!😂 Lots of climbing as usual but so many lovely descents to enjoy also! There was rain forecast for around 11am so I set off just before 7am to empty roads in my home town, its a very different story any other day...

I headed for Slamannan and used the back road to Avonbridge which meant I could enjoy this lovely descent early in my ride!

1692528283076.png

1692528344669.png

I soon arrived in Avonbridge and took the narrow back road up to Standburn, its such a great road for a bike with lots of twists and turns and some nice descents at first followed by some big climbs! This is the final climb up to Stan smooth tarmac!

1692528688646.png

The road into Standburn is another cracker, its like a rollercoaster and very quick in parts! Then I took the road towards Linlithgow but I made a detour through Whitecross for a change of scenery as I have ridden the road to Linlithgow a lot recently! As I passed through Whitecross all the farms came into view, its a busy time for the farmers!

1692529111728.png

This road is amazing also, it starts with a big descent followed by yet another climb!

1692529182660.png

I then joined the main road into Linlithgow but thankfully it was still early and there was very little traffic around, I arrived in the centre of the town and decided to take the big climb up to Beecraigs Country Park! As I turned to take on the climb the summit software on my Wahoo gps informed me it was a 3.8 mile climb with an average gradient of 3.2%! The first part is very steep, known as Preston road lungbuster! 😂 Not so tough on a powerful e bike though, I stopped before the next part of the climb to grab these photos!

1692529769820.png

1692529810710.png

As I set off again the summit software now reported a 1.2 mile climb with an average gradient of 6.2%, a bit strange considering I had only covered around a mile of the supposed 3.8 mile climb...I reached the top and grabbed another couple of photos!

1692530024297.png

Lots of farmland to the north and the Grangemouth Oil Refinery down in the valley with the Ochill Hills shrouded in cloud in the background!

1692530169598.png

I could have taken the easy route down to Torphicen but I decided to take the big climb up to Cairnpapple hill, a real beast of a climb but one of the best cycling roads in the country with the big corkscrew climb being the highlight and then followed by a spectacular descent down into the valley where I managed 43.2mph into a 20mph headwind!

There are some great views from Cairnpapple and today I could even see the bridges over the River Forth!

1692530627128.png

1692530554469.png

I then had another big descent to enjoy down into Bathgate, one day I will tackle this one going up the way! There's a few tight turns so you can't really get up to high speed going down but its still fun of course! From Bathgate I took the road to Whitburn and used the new cycle path from there to Armadale as the road was getting busy now! I passed through Armadale and decided to continue down the descent towards Bridgehouse before taking another big climb up the hills overlooking Armadale! Once at the top I headed back to Armadale down 2 lovely big descents and then it was a straight road home through Blackridge and Caldercruix!

Yet another fantastic ride on my local roads and I arrived home dry with a spotless bike, always a bonus here!:D

The place is growing on me, not many pics, all on the gopro, tried putting the SD card in my phone but it just errored.

Did the Cromer Cromer Gravel trail, 18 miles almost entirely on bridlepaths.

Started here at Cromer Pier

I rode the beach, the wife too the cliff path for the first mile.

I said no pictures.
This is halfway at one of the highest points in the entire county...99m
IMG-20230819-WA0000~2.jpg

Truly beautiful trail with less than a few hundred yards of road, the wife did incredibly well, a lot of it was hard going through overgrown paths.

The obligatory hay bale shot.

Hired a boat in the Norfolk Broads, which is kind of like Englands Florida.
Endless beautiful boat houses, lakes and interconnecting rivers, ranging from ultra modern Miami style to 15th century pubs and boathouses.

Anyway, its a place Ive always wanted to visit and its like stepping back in time, real old England.. the hire boats are from the 50s with diesel inboards.

The whole place looks dated, but when you look, you realise they are all million pound houses and those rich people who drive cheap tatty cars.

Everyone is hyper polite, everything is still like this poster.

I have GOT to get to Poland, some day!

Our ride yesterday. Mrs DG and myself explored Tattenhoe Park a bit further. Didn’t realise it was so big, so still more to explore.

The diet and exercise regime is going well. Albeit the first weigh in, I have lost 2.6kg, which has been helped by cycling 160 miles during the week.

Hope that I can keep it up.

DG…
