2022 Rize Models - Thoughts/Comments/Experiences From Owners

@ThompsonRH I hade a few scuffs and scrapes but nothing major on my RXs. One of them had a small gouge out of the plastic bezel on the screen. I contacted them as my wife did not like the look of the scratch / gouge but they wanted me to send them the screen and wait for them to assess if they should send me a replacement. Rather than go without the bike for weeks, she decided to deal with it.

Are you having any noises from the motor? See my previous post with a video or my other thread with video. I am curious if you are having the same weird noise I am.

I definitely get the grinding sound from the motor like yours, I was surprised how loud it was but I suppose u tune it out after a while. I'm assuming its normal. The wind and the "normal" motor sound in yr video drown out most of the rest but I can here a faint tinkling sound on your video, but it sounds more like a metal buckle, a mud guard or something light just banging on the frame or fender. Could it be yr derailleur? I've spent a lot of time tweaking mine. Its tricky getting it indexed perfectly and I'm not there yet. But if the small pulley cog is not well aligned with each sprocket in the cassette it will make a continual clicking sound, especially with pedal pressure. Try using different gears or even go to level 0 and click through all the gears and see if u hear that sound. If you find a gear where yr getting that sound then you turn the derailleur cable adjustment anti clockwise ¼ of a turn to stop the chain catching the next cog and see if it goes away.

For the Rize RX, in Settings, the Max Speed and Wheel Diameter seem to fixed, greyed out, you can't select those settings. But the wheel size is incorrect, should be 27.5" and not 27" (supposed to set 27" for the Pro) and I'd like to set the max speed to less than 65 Kph. Anyone know how you can changes these settings?

Actually that's not really much use; it maybe closer but, the profile and actual circumference of the inflated tire will be different for different 27.5" tires, and their is a fair variety in that size. Some of the popular wider ones are actually near equivalent to 29" tires. The software should use circumference which you measure at your riding pressure, using wheel/tire size will never be really accurate.

Ahh ah good point Explorer-1, spokes seem a bit thicker than my road bike but maybe true of Mountain Bikes with honking big tires also. Thanks good thought.

I don't see any new comments on "2021 Rize Models" experiences so I'll just close out by saying my experience has been great. The front wheel that was damaged in shipping is now fixed. Rize quickly sent new spokes and rotor (I requested this approach, I didn't want the hassle of returning the wheel) and I got my local bike shop to instal them and check the wheel alignment. A doddle of a job, I could have done it myself but since it was a warranty issue then I was happy to give it to a great bike repair shop in Montreal. Rize came back right away and agreed to pay the labour bill. Only mods so far are to replace the bell with a much loader Crane bell and I added a bright flashing red light at the rear. I also replaced the saddle quick release with a burglar detergent bolt. If I had a complaint it would be the derailleur, I've spent a lot of time making adjustments (starting from square one several times) but I can't get it to change smoothly throughout the 9 gear range and if I eye it from the rear, it doesn't seem to hang vertically even after I find the best working cable adjustment. I'm running out of ideas on fine tuning. I'm used to a very smooth derailleur on my regular bike, maybe spoiled. My feeling is that the structure of the arm is not rigid enough (my trusty old derailleur has a cast aluminum arm).

I also have issues with the derailleur on my Rize RX. It skips gears and wont change smoothly. I may have to take it somewhere to get adjusted if my attempts fail again.

Might be your derailleur hanger alignment. Can get out of align in shipping.
Great instructions here

Received the new front disk and replacement spokes. I found a back alley bike shop who did all the fixes and checked the wheel. Alls good now. I bought a new bell, well worth it, you can hear it a mile away.

I find for around town on a flat cycle paths, its too powerful, I often just set it to level 0 for slow cycling. It seems to function best at 30 Kph in top gear. I also find that most of the time I'm using level 1 (1 of 9 levels set) but interestingly I think it operates more smoothly set to level 3 (of 9 levels). It maybe requires a bit more torque to get it moving set to 3 but then there's lest of a jolt. Not analyses methodically, just s sense. Although its definitely more at home off road, amazing following trails in the woods

Good Afternoon

I have an update, but it is a little bit of a good news bad news type situation.

Good news is we will be getting a full replacement frame for you.

Bad news is, unfortunately, due to unexpected factory delays we won't be able to get a replacement frame made until March.

Best regards,

Rize Bikes

Yet the same bike is in stock.

BlackFlash, I don’t think the bikes are assembled in NA, in fact not sure what Rize in Vancouver or California do other than just forward the Bikes to us. The parts supply chain is probably quite different. But for me, last Sept, they were happy just to send me the damaged parts (spokes & brake discs) and I replaced them myself

I replaced the spokes and brake disk and everything is fine now. I rode a lot in the Fall but now winters set in Montreal and its hard to get the bike out of my basement and across deep snow in the back yard so the bikes hibernating for a while. Plus I found in quite cold conditions, -10 ish it took a while for the motor to kick in at junctions, from a stationary start. Others have mentioned this problem.

I received my 2 RXs. I really like both of the colors. The silver is much better than I was expecting. No issues with anything except the silver one had a chipped screen. I have to call Rize to ask for a replacement. I do agree with someone who said there is a lot of assist even on level 1. I guess gears 1-6 are really only for hills. I find myself constantly riding in 7-8-9. Granted, I have not hit any major hills yet. One question I do have is if it matters what gear I am in when I am starting from a stop? Do I have to gear down before stopping all the time? It seems like it leaves just fine from a stop in gear 5+ but not sure how it affects the drivetrain
I think it VERY important to be mindful of what gear you’re in with the motor on the RX. Starting in a high gear (small cog on cassette) is very hard on the driveline. You are putting a ton of torque on chain and cassette. That’s how chains get snapped and gears prematurely worn.
