Does this forum need regional split?

Ok geek, congratulations you have earned a biscuit. You totally missed the point that these are buying guidelines for consumers who are unlikely to understand the finer points, and just need the headlines. The EPAC label that is an essential requirement for legality in the EU and UK only...

Does this forum need regional split?

To be fair, you really only need to know the headline differences. Non-compliant bikes are almost always very non-compliant. For example, a UK/EU checklist would be something like: Make sure it's pedal assistance. Any form of throttle or propulsion without peddling isn't legal. Motor power...

Does this forum need regional split?

The importance of following regional rules. Lots of bikes being crushed.

Does this forum need regional split?

EU (Inc UK) - Pedelec, 250W power limit and 25 km/h speed. US, pretty much unregulated. This is the huge divide, beyond that the regional details are very similar. The problem is Amazon will happily sell all sorts of illegal kit that will likely.end up getting crushed for law enforcement...

Does this forum need regional split?

So much poor advice here with regards to different rules on what's legal in different regions. Very few of the posts from people asking questions about a new bike address some of the key issues that have regional variances, and nobody wants their bike crushed or fines for riding illegal kit...

8+ months of research, 100s of hours, know what I need & want but can't find it

Buy a Bosch based mid drive system with a gen3 system and Nyon based display, you can then play with the torque mapping modes if you buy a cheap app add-on from Bosch. You can set the lowest mode to simply offset the additional weight of the bike. I would avoid add-ons, conversions and other...

After knowing what you know now, would you go with the smart system or not?

It's poor attention to detail. I had other issues also, more serious, like power not being applied correctly to motor until I change assist mode, after connecting. It's related to the lock function. Bosch never responded to support tickets...

After knowing what you know now, would you go with the smart system or not?

Bosch support is pretty poor, I wouldn't buy a Bosch system in future. My EBike Connect still has a 1:1 conversion between miles and kilometres big that's been knocking around for 2 years now. Bosch have given up on anything that's not Smart System.

Anyone know what the update did for the Nyon?

I could be wrong, but haven't they split the OS from the maps. There is now menu entries for offline maps and independent map updates in the settings. Has that always been there? Also seeing improvements to speed of transitioning between screens. A full change log would be nice.

    Bosch Nyon system abandoned?

It's all uploaded to ebike connect, however it waits for other trips, if you are in trips mode. The issue is that it waits indefinitely.. and only knows a trip is finished when a new one is synced. Feels like it was very poorly designed.

    Bosch Nyon system abandoned?

Absolutely a bug. Perhaps if you use your bike daily, you will never encounter it. If you have gaps in your usage, you don't see your last trip until you do a new trip. As your individual rides have already been uploaded, having a scheduled script that batches and forwards on anything in the...

    Bosch Nyon system abandoned?

It's to do with Trips mode. If I want to batch rides into trip, this bug occurs. If you aren't seeing it, I suspect you are in Rides mode.

    Bosch Nyon system abandoned?

The other really frustrating long standing bug, which is server-side and surely affects ALL Bosch systems, is the Komoot sync. Basically, a sync of your last ride to Komoot only occurs when a new ride is uploaded. If I do a ride, upload the data to ebike connect and then go on holiday for a...

    Bosch Nyon system abandoned?

Last update was March 2022. The maps, even older, now coming up to 2 years old, there are bugs in 3.0.0.0 software still not fixed. Not sure were you get "every other month"?

    Bosch Nyon system abandoned?

@William - Bosch Team Can we assume that Bosch have abandoned the 2yr old Nyon'21 device? It's not getting fixes or map updates. If so, how is 2 years an acceptable support period for a closed, proprietary system? Why should we invest in the smart system, only for it to be abandoned next year.

    Lithium Battery charging.

I also found some info from Bosch that says top ups after every ride, however small isn't a problem.

    Lithium Battery charging.

To be clear, I'm charging using the manufacturers charger but from a solar source., Rather than the grid. To charge my battery from the grid costs certainly isn't "cents" where I live charging when the sun is out is free.

    Lithium Battery charging.

Have solar panels and it makes sense to charge my ebike whilst the sun is out. This might mean topping up from any capacity, very low or almost full. Does it damage a Lithium battery (Bosch) doing such a thing? Looking for facts please, as there are many old wives tales around battery...
