My first inclination is to search ALIEXPRESS.com as all kinds of ebike parts are being sold including aftermarket batteries for the xp std. folding bike. You'd be surprised what you can find.

A plastic or plywood panel zip tied to the rack supports should be adequate to keep little feet safe.

Thats odd, as my xp has very minimal maintenance, but I can see where thrashing the bike and being oblivious to careing about the machine can result in accelerated maintenance and repairs. Really depends on how you treat the bike. I suppose the more money one spends on the bike, the more care...

I suggest going with a $900 Lectric XP as a starter bike, then sell it easily for near what you paid and get a bike based on improving upon your newfound experience and expectations.

Well I picked an Lectric XP weighing some 52lbs with battery. It can be rolled around in folded state, but there is a learning curve. Once figured out, it rolls acceptably.

Well those gas-oil struts seem to last long enough, evidenced by my 31 year old motorcycle still working well. But then my xp has a cheap seatpost spring thingy plus springs in the seat.

From a mechanical engineering viewpoint, that is callad a "progressive spring" which is often seen in conjunction with hydraulics in motorcycle front fork suspension systems dating back to the 1970's

I maintain that a lever actioned spring is esentially no better than a sraight spring. As a mechanical engineer, I think a adjustabe nitrogen gas or hydraulic control would be preferable for bound and rebound control to the ancient metal spring with friction control pogo stick concept. New is...
