You can also usually walk away from an ebike crash. When I owned cycles I was always getting hurt.

They're two different kinds of two wheeled animals. A proper motorcycle provides a more pure experience of a leaning machine. A bicycle provides the enjoyment of a human motor.
Of late I have seen many ebikes going down the side of the road at 30+mph, no pedaling. Those are just lame as*ed motorcycles.
A proper ebike should be more bicycle than motorcycle.

It is a different type of fun. I have many more miles pedaling than moto-ing, from mower motor mini-bike to first real motorcycle, a 1987 Honda VFR 700. Which I rode it around San Francisco and the Sonoma Hills. It was great. I have ridden my road bike on some of the same roads in Sonoma. But...I would not say my pedal-assist Creo is more fun than a motorcycle. The last MC I bought was, in 2004, Suzuki SV650 about $3900, new. And the last, and only, ebike I bought is my 2025 Specialized Turbo Creo 2 Comp at $6500. Dollar for dollar the SV was more smiles, while I buzzed around the streets and hills, camped, and did track days. But it is retired. The Creo will win the long haul, as a good companion.

Thats very much in thing in the UK, but if I lived in Utah I would probably only ride dirt bikes.
I used to be able to tear about the countryside on one, but now its all been banned outside of very specific paths.

Ive learnt to appreciate the slow lane and as you say, far less consequence, waves instead of curses.
Access to thousand of miles of gorgeous trails, pub and driving licence friendly.

EVs of all kinds are vastly simpler, but so were internal combustions in their day.
The utterly ludicrous levels of complexity introduced by politicians and gadget freaks have turned them into overweight , over engineered monstrosities.

Is it likely EVs will eventually follow.
They are already heavy, but likely to get lighter.
Ebikes will endup with ABS, electronic gearboxes and suspension, traction control, power steering, lane following, self riding, crash detectors, rider profiles, logins, terrain warnings, limp modes, remote cutout, brake pad wear indicators and alcohol detectors.

Agree with all of that. Stage of life also needs to figure into the fun calculation here.

Had great fun as an avid road cyclist in my 20s and early 30s. Lack of bike infrastructure wasn't a big concern back then.

Then had tons of fun on fast Japanese motorcycles like the Suzuki GS1100 in my 30s and early 40s. But I had the reflexes and need for speed for it back then.

Took up mountain biking late in the motorcycle era through my 50s. Just as fun, but in a very different — and generally much safer — way.

Gave up motorcycling for good at 42 shortly after our 1st kid was born. Just felt like the right thing to do. Cycling fell off sharply after that as well — partly for lack of sufficiently safe places to ride.

A move to a hilly cycling paradise in my mid-70s then pulled me into road/gravel ebiking. Also tons of fun — and realistically, the most fun I can have on 2 wheels at this stage in my life. Plan A now is to stick with ebiking as long as life lets me.

Similar motorcycle experience here. Had a Kawasaki 400cc 2 stroke triple. That was fun. Also had various dirt bikes until spousal pressure... I mean logic dictated an end to that.

I'll grant a loose correlation between spousal pressure and logic. Problem is, the correlation between logic and the things I want to do is even looser.

I grew up on a small dairy farm. We always had horses. I got into mini-bikes and then motorcycles as I got a bit older. Both horseback riding and motorcycles are fun, but
would be hard pressed to pick one over the other.

As an adult, my wife and I purchased our hobby farm over 30 years ago. We had horses until about a year ago. We now have ATV/UTVs and e-bikes. They are all fun. I can ride my e-bike right from our farm. Our ATVs and UTV need to be trailered somewhere to ride. The nice thing about where we live is there is a large county park with miles of equestrian trails about a mile from our farm. have ridden those trails countless times over the years. I never had to trailer there because we live so close!

Ive still got my KDX200, but its taking root in the garage.
It would be ridiculous to take it out and only be able to ride it on 5% of the trails Ive already ebiked on.
The Levo can run Turbo for 25 miles, its more than enough to get about the hills for a day
