Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

Some pictures from my epic 115 mile ride yesterday that didn't make the cut in the Our Rides section! https://forums.electricbikereview.c...tos-maps-and-videos.58838/page-34#post-709232

Dinosaur season returns!
Just as the swallows return to San Juan Capistrano each March, so the dinosaurs now return to the South Carlsbad State Beach Campground store each April.

We ran across them at the end of a 24 mi coast ride to Oceanside harbor and back. Just a few of the animatronic species...

If you think getting chased by dogs is bad, think what cycling would be like if that Chixulub asteroid hadn't come along.

The Camp Store area was packed with families with kids on this beautiful Thursday afternoon — many probably local. (That's their evil scheme, of course.) We found a quiet table away from the chaos to enjoy draft kombuchas and chips before heading home.

From the earlier Oceanside segment...

My bike insisted on joining the line-up outside a dive bar at Oceanside harbor.

Friday I felt like carp, but decided to quickly head out to the grocery store to return an item that had been recalled. Uncomfortable... weather was iffy and only 10C. Rained on my way back.
Yesterday I felt much better and the weather was stellar pushing 15C with sunshine.
Off to the greenway...

Random pic my phone took whilst mounted...

You need a keen eye to see the water line. Must be at least 1.5kms out...

Water break, and it was warm enough to ditch my jacket!

On my way back a bunch of us had to wait. Massive amounts of coal heading to Roberts Bank...

Great fun and happily left my heated vest and gloves at home... finally!

The perfect cycling fuel
Today's 20 mi coast ride with neighbor DB had just one objective — locally famous VJ Donuts in Cardiff. Quite a let-down when donut fancier DB rolled up to the CLOSED sign for Easter Sunday.

20260405_101644.jpg

So we tried the nearby Bump coffee stand. Excellent coffee, but surprisingly, only one sweet — salted chocolate chip cookies. And boy, were they good!

A few bites in, I had a revelation: I'd just found the perfect cycling fuel — lots of carbs with some fat and electrolites. So naturally, I had two.

Turns out, there's another Bumps on the Coast Highway just south of home. I see many salted chocolate chip cookies in my future.

Man, that looks delish! 😍

Squeaked in an other short ride yesterday after grocery shopping to gather a couple of things I needed at a couple of different stores.
The weather was nice enough at 16C that I didn't bother with a jacket at all. Gorgeous out!

Under the bridge is a little noisy...

Into a small park near there...

All these cedar logs are processed at this mill...

The boys of summer are back. The batter cracked a single which resulted in a RBI...

Last Wednesday morning's group road ride out of Encinitas hit several of my favorite North County routes.

Screenshot_20260409_160736_Ride with GPS.jpg

The 36 mi shown here included 6 mi to get to the meetup and another 6 mi to get home from the final coffee stop at the Parakeet Cafe.

20260408_104900.jpg

Almost 40 riders this time, including 5 women and one other ebiker. Lots of very fancy road bikes weighing next to nothing in this mostly senior group.

Screenshot_20260409_160625_Specialized.jpg

Most of the SPORT assist came before and after the group ride proper — before in order to get to the meetup as fresh as possible, and after to get my worn-out legs over the big hill between the Parakeet and home.

But as always, I also had to resort to some SPORT to keep up on the steepest of the group climbs (typically 7-8%). The fact that riders even older than I am do these climbs with no help at all is both inspiring and demoralizing at the same time.

Would love to blame it on the extra 20 lb of bike I'm lifting, but I've done the math. It's my bird legs, not the bike.

Awesome Jeremy! Great mileage! you had tons of battery to spare. What is your ready to ride weight? I know you have a rack and tool bag. so everything.

Also, what power is your Sport power setting? The default 50%? I have been moving mine around in the app between 45 and 60% for Sport. My Turbo never exceeds 75%. I have recently been experimenting with the Micro Mode. my last ride I was at 10% for a majority. and some OFF, on the pure downhills as well. So cool to be flexible!

Man, my riding the last two weeks has sucked. Two weeks ago, I started getting sick around Monday. Only a little, but it was bad, saturated, and peaked on Monday. I stayed home that day, no less. I tested for COVID and the flu, and they were negative. So Tuesday started riding lightly, felt only a little tired, wed a little better, then I started running out of energy. By the weekend, I was dead, could not even walk 1/3 a mile. So now I am really being careful. I think I just pushed too hard. Monday, I rode on turbo and only averaged 50 watts, but my heart rate was 107 average. It was crazy. But that showed me how bad I was. I am slowing working up now. Today, I was not too bad, but still several more days till I can work at it. of course last weekend was nice too.

About 38 lb as usually ridden but still pretty responsive:

Closer to 40 lb with the full 750 ml water bottle carried on these group rides:

Kept the factory assist modes for quite a while, then experimented and eventually settled on ECO = 35/45, SPORT = 55/70, and TURBO = 80/100 maybe 6-8 months ago. But I ride in OFF a lot and rarely resort to TURBO.

Keep forgetting about MicroTune. But it works well on these group rides, as it allows me to dial in just enough help to make keeping up possible but not easy.

On my SL, 20% is the lowest usable MicroTune level, and the motor really needs 30% to feel completely normal. It clearly dislikes 10%.

Good to hear you're putting that behind you! :)

Thanks for the reply Jeremy. I know you have the previous gen motor, so was not sure if the app software was tied to the motor. but you know your bike and it is great to have control!

38lb RTR weight is decent for alloy.

I am still trying to figure the % to make it the same as my Ibis Hakka. I still have not figured it out. But also not trying hard.

I am no weight weinie at 215lbs of me, but I did upgrade the stock alloy wheels to the lowest tier Roval Terra carbon wheels. so I am at 31lb ReadytoRoll. I need to weigh what I rode the other day with a rear rack and trunk bag and Range extender battery.

Well, I was a little bored, so I weighed my bike…since my Creo was in the same mode as my big ride, with two water bottles and tools and stuff in the trunk bag. And it is 10lbs heavier. so 41lb RtoRide

Oh…I just realized I had the flat pedal adapter installed on my XT SPD pedals….I went grocery shopping earlier today. They are amazing! Redshift Mousetrap Pedal Adapters

So how does that 10 lb weight difference actually manifest while riding? Do you notice it more in handling and responsiveness, or in climbing? How about with both bikes in OFF?

I'll share a spreadsheet that might be of interest shortly. It estimates power losses and rider power requirements for 3 cases — my 38 lb SL as ridden, then the same bike with first 5 kg and then 10 kg magically removed. No other changes.

Sneak preview: A 10 kg weight difference affects rider power requirements less than you might think — even in climbing.

I've never seen that side by side bottle cage set up before. Ingenious with a range extender. My Vado SL has bosses under the top tube so I've a cage there, but it always feels a bit weird, the bottle being upside down.

Re the weight; I'm guessing the water and RE account for a lot of the extra weight. Dread to think what my Vado is when equally saddled up, it's base is around 37lbs.
