Fat STREET Tires are WAY BETTER for Riding on Pavement than KNOBBY Off-Road Tires

I'm with PCebiker on this. It's just too damn cold out there in N Michigan. Personally when it goes below around 45-50 degrees F.. I'm done for the season

It certainly does get cold up there, @DDBB . But it’s important to find a way to stay in shape through those cold months. Good luck!

It's been super cold here in PA with lots of wind with some shitty weather and snow, I haven't been riding in 5 weeks. But I find just getting out on the bike for maybe 15 minutes once a week, helps me stay emotionally happy and healthy. Short little rides here and there is what I am starting to do when the weather permits. I realize my weather is not nearly as bad as other parts of the country which get extreme cold and snow, if I lived there I would certainly pack it in for the winter months. Back to the tire width issue I find I enjoy my 2.1 to 2.5 inch wide tires year round over fat 4 inch tires. The skinnier tires are lighter and much more agile and enjoyable to ride, for me anyway.

I'm done for the season too.

I'm converting my hub-drive ebike into a dual motor hub-drive mid-drive hybrid ebike during my hibernation

I'll have a total of over 2500 Watts available, but I geared it Stupid low so it probably won't go over 20 mph.

It'll climb the side of a building though, if I put cleated tires on it.
Or suction cups or whatever it takes ?
I havent figured out that part yet ?? 😁🤪

The 36 tooth chainring was rubbing on the motor housing (but what would you expect? It's a Bafang. It's not Special at all)

I hope I get the damn thing done by spring, and that it's a late spring with June showers, but I'll probably need more than six months before I start climbing the walls. (so to speak)

Sorry about my trashy photos @Chazmo I know how you don't like them.

Yep, agreed. Even though I still can wear the snowmobile suit that I bought in MI in 1990, prior to moving to OK, I have no desire to pedal in cold weather.

I'm just picturing what the trail from Charlevoix to Petoskey must look like, this time of year, with the winds coming off the lake and making drifts. Brrrrr!

We're supposed to have record highs in the upper 70s around Christmastime here, though. Definitely good bike weather, and I plan to take advantage! 😁

That's an interesting cassette.

I think it kinda makes sense.

It's gotta Stupid low Granny gear for when I run out of battery and have to actually start pedaling my ~100 pound monstrosity. 😁
(It's like one of those donut emergency tires you keep in the trunk of your car)

And my new mid-drive motor has Tons of drag on the clutch so pedaling a dead ebike will suck even more. 😁

Maybe I can flag down a roadie and challenge em' to race me home on each other's bikes? 🤔
$50 to the winner.

(I actually do have a $50 bill in my wallet to pay for a ride home, so losing a bet is the same difference.)
