Picture rotation issue

I am having issues with posting pictures (images) on this forum. I think it has to do with metadata. When I post a correctly oriented photo, I am taking the picture with my phone held horizontally (landscape mode). With the incorrectly oriented photos, I am taking the picture with my phone held vertically (portrait mode). Either the picture metadata isn't telling Zenforo that it's in that mode, or Zenforo isn't recognizing it.

My forum photos are taken with a Samsung Galaxy S25+. Before I post the photo, I resize it using the Windows Photos app on my Windows 11 computer, in order to get the image size <2.0MB. I am viewing the forum using Mozilla Firefox.

I'd like to use this thread to help diagnose the issue and figure out a workaround. Admins can delete it afterwards if needed.

It must take great skill if you think about it; driving upside down in a looking glass world.

I would drive a farm truck in NZ and always wondered that with a left hand stick shift, why not just go ahead and put the clutch on the right too.

I will be the first to admit that I did that too last week. It was an extra-heavy RAD Power 5 with no key for the battery. So, I put blocks under the grips and flipped it. Rear hub motors are easier to drop the motor-wheel into place this way. My private shop does not have a power lift. That bike is so stereo typical of the American market demand in the very worst way.

For those NOT seeking a batch solution, the one below seems to be reliable on my Samsung Android.

1. Rotate the image 360° to bring it back to original orientation. (I see the problem only with images shot in portrait.)

2. Make some other edit that forces an image data (not just an EXIF header) rewrite. I use an inconspicuous crop if nothing else.

3. Resize to below 2.0 MB as needed.

4. Save and upload.

I simply upload/download the image, and open/edit it with MS Paint.
Alternatively, I use postimage for quick and dirty forum postings.

It wasn't my phone or the forum. It was the PC software that I was using to resize the picture in between downloading from the phone and uploading to the forum. I tried Windows Photos and Canon Digital Photo Professional, two that I use regularly. Both ignored the metadata, with no way to change this behavior (that I could find). The PowerToys Image resizer, a Windows app, gives you the choice to ignore metadata or not.

My process going forward is:

Take pictures on the phone.
Download pictures from the Gallery to my Windows forum folder in full resolution.
Open Power Toys Image Resizer and select all the photos that I want to post.
Select the "Large" image size and save. Each photo's name will be appended with "(Large)".
Post and upload the photos to the forum reply.

If the image has a lot of content, "Large" may be too big. I'll know by looking in the folder. If so, I'll resize them to "Medium".

I could shoot in RAW but that adds another step that isn't apparent on a forum.

I don't know about any security risk. I don't know where to find metadata Go to homepage or how to interpret it. I'm a hardware guy, remember?

Yes i see The real proof will come when he modifies that Cannondale to run on Ryobi or DeWalt batteries.
