Did they replace them because they were failing ?
Doesn't that motor naturally spike up to 1600W from the factory, but it doesn't run at that?
So it really wasn't the motor making the noise then ?I put a new chain, derailleur and gear set on and I'm amazed at the lack of noise. Even quieter than it was. And smooth as a baby's butt.
Never had any noise. Incredibly silent . Even more so now.So it really wasn't the motor making the noise then ?
Mine is one of the very first ones. Fall of 2017. Metal gears on the shelf but won't replace them until the nylon ones fail. And I show them no mercy. If you have an Ultra that's not making noise, you have one of the early ones that was supplied with a nylon gear (early Ultra G510). The later G510's and the newest M620's (same thing pretty much to my knowledge) had metal gears installed, and there's no such thing as a silent one.
I asked Luna about their gear a couple of weeks ago, and was told it was for the BBSxx series only. Would love to hear there's a plastic (or composite, whatever) available that would replace the noisey metal one.
Not that they are THAT noisey. Hum or growl is how I would describe it. But not silent for sure... -Al
I guess not, this was EBR own Courts observation when he tested one this year.....If you have an Ultra that's not making noise, you have one of the early ones that was supplied with a nylon gear (early Ultra G510). The M600 with the Luna PEEK gear is pretty quiet, the thing is the tire noise will sometimes overpower motor noise anyways.I would think the word "quiet" might be subjective. I'm here to tell you that there are MUCH quieter running motors than a metal gear Ultra, or their M600 for that matter.
What's crazy is NOBODY experienced a huge failure rate running those early nylon gears. It was the "experts" that suggested it wouldn't be hard to take one out - though they never did. Bafang took them at their word, went through the expense of a production change, and now we deal with the steel gear noise.
Terry what brand of Ebike do you have with that system ?My tyres make more road noise than the motor makes running. There’s a small gentle clunk as the power comes on then a whir as it gets the power down and going until the tyre rolling noise is all you can hear. The belt makes it a quiet system too. You also don’t get that ticking noise you get with a cassette of gears on the rear wheel as they turn freewheel.
But... then you have the gear noise as you change up and down with the IGH that you don’t have to do all the time with the rear wheel hub motor. I like the mid drive as a whole system, I wouldn’t mind trying the hub motor just to see and feel all the differences between the two or the Ultra with a chain.
