I found this to be true as well.
I try and balance the load by taking the heavier items out of my rear rack bag (tools, etc) and putting them in a pannier on the opposite side of the one carrying the battery
Yeah exactly ! I carry enuff bad weather gear to make it easy to balance the load between the panniers

Sure lowering the center of gravity can be more beneficial than centering.. but you just acknowledged that an unbalanced load isn't any fun either.
The point being made was... what's the point of extending a ride if it requires riding like a homeless person living out of their car.
Give me the shorter more fun ride for which my bike was designed to delivery.
