I'm looking to get one of those and so I'm starting a thread comparing the different speed unlockers (differences in price, functionality, installation, durability, bugs, etc..) for the people that have them, or the people who want to get one. My hope is that people with Yamaha PW ebikes will chime in with their experiences and/or info that they have.
SpeedBox2: €139 or ~$159 (Link Removed - No Longer Exists)
EPlus: €111 or ~$129 https://www.eplus.bike/en/products/yamaha-products/yamaha-racing-speed-unlocker/
BadAssBox 4: €149 or ~$169 (Link Removed - No Longer Exists)
BadAssBox 3.4: €139 or ~$159 (Link Removed - No Longer Exists)
Blueped: €149 or ~$170 (unfortunately they don't ship to US/Canada) https://www.ebiketuningshop.com/blueped-yamaha.html
PearTune MSO: ~€130 or $149 https://www.ebay.com/itm/PearTune-M...-Syncdrive-Pedelec-E-Bike-Tuning/112208437252 <----- bought this one

I have a giant dirt E+2 2016. Yamaha syncdrive C.

Speedbox 2 - Tried 2 boxes. Both switched bike off randomly so I returned them. Speed display was erratic. I believe others have had better experiences.

Badass box - Worked well. Shows half the speed on the display.

Now have Greenped. Absolutely awesome. Has an app on android and IPhone. You can control how much tuning you want. Speed display is accurate and stable.

Hello, Sorry, I have a Trek Powerfly7 ( Bosch Drive Train ) and a Speedbox2 for 6 months, has worked perfectly, no problems.

Thanks for the info. However I'm a bit confused. I see BluePed, BlackPed, RedPed, GreenPed. Are all these from the same company? Or are they competitors? I'm looking for one for a Yamaha PW motor.

They are from same company. It depends on what motor and display/bike manufacturer you have to what module you need. For example the greenped is for the Yamaha synchdrive c motor which is a Yamaha pw motor. The redped is for a Yamaha pw motor with a Yamaha display.

Thanks. However ebiketuningshop does not ship to the US or Canada. So unless you are outside the US/Canada, how did you get your GreenPed?

I'm sorry, as far as I'm aware they are the only stockist of these products unlike the speedbox line.

I live in the UK.

I have been using the Bikespeed-RS for over two years in my Haibike AllMtn with Yamaha PW motor. It works well and displays the correct speed. The only issue is that the maximum speed (attained, presumably) is a highly optimistic 55 mph. Made in Germany and I believe they ship worldwide.

@cheekee @Bicyclista Do ANY of these tuning dongles support showing REAL accurate speed on the LCD display in mph?? Cause I've seen some that state that the only real speed on the display works in km/h. Thanks in advance.

My Bikespeed-RS displays speed in mph or in kph on the LCD. When I switch between mph and kph, the conversion appears to be reasonably accurate. And just riding the bike it seems reasonably accurate in mph. I don't have access to laboratory grade instruments, so that's the best I can tell you.

I'm honestly not sure to be honest with you. My bike only has KPH anyway so my greenped is accurate for KPH but I have heard that the speedbox 2 only does KPH. No experience of the bikespeed RS.

I went with the PearTune MSO, which is available through eBay. It works as advertised, and reports correct speed and distance. It can be configured to switch on with the walk mode button, which was perfect for me since the walk mode was disabled on my Haibike from the factory.

I have a Giant Quick E 2019 with a Speedbox 2. The motor is Yamaha Syncdrive with Evo Display. Speed Display probably accurate. Only problem is I use the Ridecontrol app and it only shows Speed and Elevation. Cadence and Battery readouts are constantly 0. Elapsed time of rides are inaccurate but if you share rides to Strava the elapsed time is correct. Might be a problem with the app not the box.

Just to let everyone know that I took @Nova Haibike advice and went with the PearTune MSO from ebay. Ebay support (questions asked) and shipping were both super fast (from the Czech Republic no less), installation was easy and the fact that you can turn it on and off with the walk button that in the U.S. does absolutely nothing is an added bonus. It also reports correct speed and distance in miles and kilometers as @Nova Haibike mentioned. All in all very happy with the purchase and now the wife can keep up with me over 20mph with her PW Yamaha HaiBike. Thanks to everyone for your help.

FYI-The company listed above for the BadAssBox 4 have indicated that they will not ship to the USA including etuning in Germany, however this company: https://www.ebikespartsandaccessories.com/badassBox-4-for-YAMAHA-p125200277 will ship from AUS to US with free shipping.

With the badassbox can giant detect if bike was moded after box is removed?

As far as i'm aware. No. Just be sure to move the magnet back to its normal position.

But mine is a 2016 model and cant be connected to their diagnostic system.

FYI for anyone looking for the BadAss Box on the USA side: I just recently logged into "Amazon in the UK" with my Amazon US credentials. I was able to access the BadAss in a search and verified with UK customer service that most orders processed on the UK site can be shipped to the USA. As long as your cart does the currency conversion and the order has your known address, it will process and you are also protected by the Amazon 30 day guarantee.
