Would you choose a suspension seatpost, a dropper seatpost, or a combination of both for your bike?

Would you choose a suspension seatpost, a dropper seatpost, or a combination of both for your bike?

None will fit my bike. The seatpost is an odd size. I have to use seats with rails like brooks or selle.

I have Cirrus Kinekt Bodyfloat suspension seatpost on my hard tail Radrover 4" fat tire for years. Recently upgraded to full suspension Himiway Cobra Pro and swapped the Bodyfloat over (had to add a shim from 27.2mmm to 30.9mm for the larger Himiway seatpost hole).

I don't do a lot of downhill or technical riding compared to level paved. dirt trail, or single track.

It is really depending on the e-bike type.
I installed both a suspension stem and suspension seat-post on my Vado SL.
My Vado 6.0 has a suspension fork, so it is only a suspension seat-post there.

I have found that having proper tubeless tyres running at quite low pressure, the suspension seat-post might be unnecessary on my sporty Vado SL. I'd love installing a dropper post there, so I could safely descend rough terrain or ride through a surface such as sand with no fright. However, I have no physical space on the e-bike to install a classic cable actuated dropper there, and an electronic dropper is too expensive for me.

I would love to have a combination suspension seat post / dropper. Unfortunately, a quality combo unit doesn't exist. I have the PNW Coast combo, just about the only one on the market, but it doesn't do either function well.

Frames are too big on most of my bikes for a dropper, but I have a pogo stick seat post on one. It works, but not well enough to buy one for the other bikes.

For the Grizl:ON?
Yes. I got the CF 9 which comes with AXS, so it can be paired to the existing shifters.

For completeness in this dropper vs suspension thread: I have the stock X-Fusion Manic 190mm dropper on my Tero X 6, and I put a Cane Creek Thudbuster (meh for larger riders) on my Aventure.2.

Nice, I almost pulled the trigger on a CF 9 that popped up on the outlet 2 weeks ago, but I'm travelling so I couldn't. Now I'm in waiting mode for a sale or outlet one to become available.

To stay on topic - I have a Kinekt seatpost that works well. But I just spent 2 weeks on acoustic bikes with no suspension and I can't say I really missed it on under 50km rides. Also noticed that I have developed a nice bob in my pedal stroke when I'm pedaling harder.

In that case, I just paid way too much for a Reverb AXS XPLR dropper post... But I guess I'll find out!
Nice upgrade. The stock Manic Fusion on my Levo just failed so I swapped it out for a One Up Components V2.

I have just ordered an inexpensive dropper seat-post actuated by a lever under the saddle for my Vado SL. I would use the dropper only for off-road descends or riding through a treacherous surface (sand!) That gives me a plenty of time to grab the handle (I'm not riding really fast off-road). I'd love the Reverb XPLR but it is unjustified for my needs to buy such an expensive equipment!

I think you'll find it useful at traffic stops and getting on/off the bike too...

The Rockshox AXS XPLR is an excellent dropper, but I don't consider it a suspension seat post and therefore not a combo unit.

The mechanism on a good suspension post does not allow enough seat rail to seat tube clearance for a dropper.

This is a feature specifically of the XPLR gravel model:

> We created an all-new design complete with lightweight air-only internals featuring built-in compliance we call ActiveRide™. It’s like travel for your saddle.

> ActiveRide - Air only internals provide a fully rigid top-out position. With the touch of your AXS controller, you’ve got built-in compliance to ensure comfort and control over the roughest sections of gravel

You set it up with a shock pump where PSI ~= 2 * weight in pounds. Here's a video of it in action (timestamped for crotch shot of seat post):

It looks like a feature for lightweight riders.
I'd say I weigh 230 lbs in full cycling clothing.
That would require inflating the cartridge to 460 psi (over 31 bar), which sounds absurd to me :)
