Would either or both of these ebike batteries be OK ?

By being a member of numerous Lithium Battery forums and many forums where those batteries are used frequently.

How many people use this forum? How many members of this forum have had such a catastrophic failure?
Let's see your evidence that the statistics support your claim.

There are tens of millions of cheap Chinese lithium batteries in use in the USA alone.
Would you say 10% have had catastrophic failures?
How about 5% ?
1% ?
0.1 % ?

As stated previously.....a significant portion of those involved in "accidents", some kind of user abuse or error was involved
Debating this with Thomas is like debating politics or religion with someone who has a opposing point of view. I do find it helpful to have potential dangers and safest handling and use of these devices be reinforced,

Respectfully, your posts, statistics and conclusions aren't vetted either
Right, 6 years of customer support emails, phone calls, and selling hundreds of batteries left me clueless.
5% is ok as long as it's not you. Too funny.

Carry on.

I have a couple of those too. I just hate seeing n00bs and a one bike owner get bilked not knowing what can and does happen.
I'm going in eyes wide open.
I don't think them time bombs as some might have you believe, but they'll be no charging on the carpet while sleeping.
If it seems to be a descent battery, maybe I'll upgrade the bms to one of those fancy Bluetooth ones for monitoring and more reliable safety circuits. This will add to the project aspect of it and that's the main reason for trying it.
I do believe that the name brands are way overpriced... But you do get a well matched BMS/charging set and a bit of R&D along with better component choices and quality control.
But what does that offer a guy with a soldering iron?

I’ve been meaning to test out my ammo can and create a cell pack failure and fire. I’m firmly in the take all precautions group.
Soon…

Charge a 48v pack at 72v...that should get it warmed up and ready to go!
The BMS will stop the charging as soon as any group reaches 4,2V, Still, you don't want to try this. Something could always go wrong and then you get your fire.

By the way, a US vendor once shipped me a 52V battery/charger when I ordered 48V. I had no reason to check, and mixed them with my true 48V battery/charger for over a year. Thank goodness for the BMS, the guardian angel of lithium.

Well it was either that or a short circuit... and I found the latter too predictable.
Can you think of a more interesting ignition initiator?

Well it seems my battery made it from China to CA to NJ to NY without catastrophically imploding and taking out any warehouses or truckers. Not wanting to wait till possibly as late as 7pm for UPS to delivery today, I was thinking of informing them of the bomb on board and that the driver must maintain 60mph to keep it from detonating

It's Alive!

I guess UPS heeded my warning/threat
Now to fit it to the triangle.
I also have to solder up an adapter to fit my xlr chargers... But I have a bench top power supply that I can use in the meantime.
Screaming hot and humid here in the YO today.. So I'll let it cool down too as it measured near 100°f out of the box as UPS probably had it sitting on the dashboard.
And I'll add one odd coincidence. On my morning ride today my bottle holder that I've had for 12 years decided to break... As if it knew it was being removed today.

Spooky!
