I know all this area intimately, It is magical scenery, like it is full of goblins and fairies, and unicorns. Witches, too, hanged at Lancaster. I think, because the area is saturated with magic mushrooms then cauldrons of the brew could have been the only 'entertainment' available. But this is where I live. Where do you live?
This area is very. very ancient, well before the Romans. The roads, some roads, are thousands of years in the making. These roads are really of no use now. They are narrow, 6ft, and sort of sunken so that they cannot be expanded. A vehicle avoids them. But they are still kept open for very local farm traffic.....a quad once a day. So, tarmac surface, no traffic. These roads are designated cycle ways. Very good riding. Naturally you would have to research, There are as many hostels along the way as you would require. So perhaps try a start with searching something like cycle routes Pendle, Lancashire. Hostel accommodation, Pendle, Lancashire. Try also Yorkshire Dales cycle ways, hostel accommodation. It's a lovely place. July and August to be sure. And pop into a pub for a bite and be accosted by something like this
