What is your test condition as you tune BBS** ?

Is your pedaling effort and related cadence on the crank required during your testing, or not?

  • Yes, my effort is greater than > Zero

I've enjoyed reading many detailed posts about programming the BBS** units and I wonder if your tests are comparative?
During your testing, do you require effort be constantly applied to the cranks?
OR
During testing, do you let the PAS system drive the CR at the chosen level as you pedal to maintain cadence only to actuate the system, with no effort?
Because:
After about two years, I'm still learning different ways of 'running' the versatile BBS02 'as is' and look forward to reading your test conditions.

I ride as I normally would and try to tune the motor to assist me when needed.. Inclines, headwinds and faster acceleration.

I ride and see what happens. It helps that my display shows real time amps and watts, but I'm going by feel as well. I'll run over a set course and watch the output on the display. I'll also simply see if I like what I just did. I'm primarily a pedaler and what I am playing with is all about cadence, PAS etc.

I have a portable plugin programmer that taps right into the display and is powered by the bike, so its a lot easier to make a change and immediately realize I hate it and pull over and undo it or do more of it as the case may be.

My "test conditions" are ALL OVER the ball park, but in general, I'm pedaling from the time I leave the house. From big hills to no hills, from single track trails/tunnels through the woods, to sidewalks and multi use trails. The only place I flat REFUSE to ride are those areas where I am separated from traffic (that weighs 100 times what I do) by a stupid, useless white line.

My "game" if I have one, is to see how far I can get on a battery charge. It requires careful controller set up as well as coordinated use of the PAS level and gear in use, involves careful monitoring of wattage in use, and all is based on the immediate conditions I find myself in. -Al

OK !
These systems are so versatile and your riding/testing styles are as just as variable, that's great.
This week I'm riding on two cogs only which function well thought-out my 10 mile route.
I vary the PAS level ( less than MAX ) for speed and allow the CR to crank to speed as required and limited or enhanced by hilly terrain.
I'll vote no for this 'go round'
