Yikes! I like to sometimes daydream about living somewhere with four real seasons. Posts like this bring the reality back home.
 
Freeze/Thaw is the killer. It does things like making ice dams on roofs. Not just walking. Doing anything out side is hazardous. Such as driving down a hill. In my opinion the thaw cycle feels colder because it is not only cold, it is also damp and penetrates. Tom is getting it because in California we are getting this pineapple express of storms. I was able to do two rides today, but we will have record breaking rains for another two weeks. Monterey could become an island.
 
It's currently 51F and sunny with light gusting winds. I gotta work at noon. Just got the bike out, threw my turn signals on charge for a bit, and I'm gonna ride up to the green house and see if they have hot pepper seeds for the garden. I need to get plants started inside soon.
 
Had downpours this morning before we got up, at 8am, it was 67 and starting to clear up with only a couple of scattered showers. Wife and I spent much of the morning and early afternoon working on the trailer. Then I remembered I had to pay our rent for the commercial kitchen. Jumped on the bike and rode out there then stopped by the grocery store. It's beautiful out, currently 64 with a nice breeze. The farmers are out prepping fields, I've already seen some rye and alfalfa coming up. Last year a lot of wheat was planted, don't know if they're doing that again.
 
Maybe a little off topic, but have any of you been hit by the respiratory virus that appears to be going around? I got hit mid March and it knocked my on my rear end. 10 times worse than the Covid I got this past summer. No energy. Just coughing and a lot of naps. Lost 10 pounds but what a way to do it. Just now getting better. Finally went to the golf course today and hit a few balls. My bikes are dust collectors...

I caught a respiratory virus last Christmas week from either sister-in-law or nephew. Both had it when I got to Houston. Pretty normal 1 week recovery but I got a bacterial lung infection at the middle & had to take antibiotics for 6 days. I need to renew my pneumonia vaccine; it has been ~15 years since the last one.
Covid BA5 or 6 last summer was 3 days. Same time as President Biden. It was too similar to previous strains to hurt much. Covid Omega 12/28/21 was 18 hours, caught at the Christmas eve service. Base covid19 was 141 days fever 2020, delta was 41 days fever 2021. I was glad I rode the bike so much unpowered, I had enough lung capacity to not need a hospital. I'm age 72, type 2 diabetes, + HBP. Covid19 did slow down my commute speed about 40%. 3.7 hours 27 miles before unpowered, 5 hours after, and that with lots of electricity.
Reading posts like #142, I'm glad I didn't transfer to that job in Huntington Beach CA in 1977. Nothing much happens here. There was an EF2 tornado 2 miles from my summer property 5 years ago (named after Henryville, also hit Marysville). Nobody died; houses sheds & school busses were torn up. I was here in the city.

In December - went straight to pneumonia.
Still coughing a bit but that's me with any kind of bronchial event. It's been a quiet winter for riding as a result, but did get out yesterday.
 
Got Covid over Christmas from my 98 year old MIL, she never missed a beat, and I am still dealing with Long-Covid. After 3 months, I can't say that I am feeling a whole lot better, still weak, brain-fog, headaches, palpitations, but on the bright side, it doesn't seem to be getting any worse.

You describe exactly what we live here on the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies. In Calgary here, I've seen some pretty big swings - like this one.
Our roads take such a beatings because of that. You adapt, but you plan your wardrobe carefully and you always have "other stuff" in your car.

So far April has been a bust: cold and wet, with temps just above freezing. On the bright side, the forecast for Tuesday is 12c and sunny--come on, Tuesday.
 
went to the moves yesterday took my light rain jacket it was 45 get out its hailing and then raining and about 39 degrees. its only a mile to go. around 2 or so the sun comes out and it gets to 52. so we go for a ride dressing like it will be cold and raining (did not know it would be 52. about 30 minutes into it we had to stop ad take off the raingear and gloves. 15 minutes at most started to rain and was not letting up back with the rain jackets no pants. then it hailed again man that hurts at 18mph. then the rest of the ride around 48 and no rain.

Sounds like the weather we get here--very inconsistent.
 
Recently whenever it is not raining in Northern California it has been windy. In Southern California's Mammoth Mountain they have 70 feet of snow. What looks like a bush is really a tree top. They will be skiing in bikinis June 21st.
 
People will be skiing in Tahoe on the 4th of July. Today is nice here but more rain is on the way Thursday and Friday. The hills are beckoning to be ridden.
