Washington State to allow bikes to "yield" at stop signs

Guess ppl can hear you coming from blocks away. Why not ear buds? Save some weight.
I order a front bag for $4.79 Let's see how far down the rabbit hole I go.
Okay I know you have one in there somewhere but...where's the shower?
More like 30, 40 feet but it works way better than an annoying bell or horn to get attention. When people hear it they turn, glance, and usually step off the trail, I am constantly telling people, "you're good" when he have eye-to-eye contact and just slip by. I have ear-buds in the bar-bag always Sony IER-M9 in-ear monitors, I never ride with them. But put them on somewhere with a great view and be amazed at what they can do. Earbuds are dangerous as s*it for riding and dangerous to ride around people wearing them even with the speaker playing.

My front double-ended bar-bag was like an $8 bid on eBay. Rockbros... some cheap Chinese gear and is both useful and surprisingly durable.

The shower is a Nemo Helio shower https://www.nemoequipment.com/product/helio/ and rides in the trailer. It's not just good for showering and washing your hair but the bike and all the gear also, multi-purpose. It works great with the Showercoil water heater. - http://www.boundarytec.com/1530-showercoil-camping-shower.php#!prettyPhoto

Ride safe.

These are the ear buds I use...the sit in the ear canal rather than plug it, you can hear everything going on and even have a conversation, plus well...their Bose, nuff said.

Nothing covering the ear or inserted into the ear and impairing hearing is safe, or legal I imagine in many states while operating motor vehicles. Not really sure cause I won't do it... hell, I don't have to do it... nuff said?

You didn't show the buds you were referring to. Ride safe.

In many states ebikes are not considered motor vehicles Just vehicles. In any case, these block your hearing no more than a hoodie.

Yeah, but you have to use the road system and conform to all applicable laws. It would surprise me if they (headphone/earbuds) aren't illegal in a lot of states and municipalities. My speaker isn't allowed in lots of places if you can hear it more than 20" away. It's not that they block the ear canal totally, but they're playing music that you want to be able to hear over the wind and traffic noise. Does your hoodie have speakers in it? I use the buds for fidelity and the Fugoo for everything else, although it's pretty good too.

Well not all applicable road laws apply to bikes...that's how this thread got started after all. Also speed limits don't apply to bikes, seat belts, horns, windshields, on and on and on.
And yes my hoodie does have speakers in it huge ones ! Quadraphonic too !

My general opinion is that loudspeakers on bikes is an obnoxious invasion of my quiet space, especially when I’m out in a quiet trail in the woods. I’ve encountered people with loudspeakers I could hear from 50-100’. That said, I don’t feel the need to fill my head with noise when I’m biking. Never have, never will.

Do you really think speed limits don't apply to bikes? Or that you aren't required to have a bell, horn, or lights? Check... you might be surprised. Never really did hoddies as a kid and they didn't use them in the military when I was younger... soooooooooo. Not a particularly practical garment in my opinion. Saw an ELP concert in Portland, OR in the 70s that was quadraphonic sound. Karn Evil Nr. 9 Third Impression
... this song (and show), standing in the middle of the Portland coliseum blew my fucking mind. At the very end of the song people were actually having trouble standing, I'm not saying who... but people were having problems standing. Never heard anything like that system since.
Well it's a funny coincidence that I was viewing the bike laws just yesterday. Horns or bells are not required, I never said lights are not required.
The point is there is no law forbidding the use of earbuds or head phone while riding bikes in my state.
I'm not promoting the use (seen too many zombies walking around staring at their phones with earbuds in). But now you are aware that there is a safe alternative to blasting your music and carrying around a large speaker.

I have to agree with you on disturbing the peace. I had to educate my next door neighbor more than should be necessary.
On the other hand, some music can really enhance the experience of a beautiful nature ride.
Like some songs are just made for driving in your car. One of my favs is the Pat etheney Group.

Safe? No, I'm not "aware". Alternatives? Of course. Bells aren't required federally but I don't ride in one little county that allows people to endanger themselves and others... or open carry thank God. Hyperacusis individuals don't have to worry, they only hear me for a few seconds, but more importantly, I can still hear any audible warnings. YES, I agree... walking zombies.

Hyperacusis, lol it's not an illness to enjoy peace and quite.
And yes if you try these Bose head sets you will realize how safe they are, on this you can take my word, just as safe as you're speaker system. In fact maybe more so. I remember trying to have a conversation with a fellow and we couldn't talk with out shouting. He finally turned his speaker off. I have never had that issue with the Bose's volume.

I used buds with those little wings to hold them in my ears years ago, just didn't like them, and like I said when I wear buds it's for fidelity and those are average at best. Huh... I just use the Fugoo remote on my handlebar stem to turn it down or pause it when I want to talk. What state do you live in?

These Boses are not shaped like buds they have a totally different shape they will not stick in the ear canal, they simply "project" the sound into the ear.
Like I said you have to try them for yourself.

Oregon's law giving bicycles the right to not have to stop at stop signs went into effect January 1 of this year. I have found many drivers have no clue whatsoever and many get angry when I blow through a stop sign 🙁

I'd love to see drivers get tested harder and more often on bicyclists' rights. I had a "discussion" with one "gentleman" that was under the impression I wasn't allowed to ride on roads if there was a sidewalk available. WTF? How do you even talk to someone like that? What I have always done is wait until I am completely safe to cross and then take off regardless of the light. Timed left turn signals work great for letting you cut a red. with cars waiting at reds both ways.

Long ago I decided that if I wanted the rights of a car driver, I had to also accept the responsibilities of a car driver. Like obeying the rules of the road and such. As I said earlier, the maintenance of momentum thing is not so important on an ebike.

Remember this: saving a bit of time by blowing through a stop sign could lose you a lifetime. And anybody who thinks you look like a dork in your bright clothes and helmet - - none of them are going to be carrying your groceries for you or wiping your backside if you get put in a wheelchair when a driver doesn't see you in your "too cool to care" stealth clothing.
