Vado security strategies

I just picked up a new Vado 4 today.
I have a folding U Lock but I understand that the existing battery key can be used with some lock (ABUS?) that can be coded or cored to use it.

Also there are bosses on the rear triangle that I hear can be used to mount a lock that will prevent the rear wheel from turning. Does anyone know about this?

This bike will be used mainly to get to and from work where I have a lockable bike box but I’ll still pack around whatever security I can manage.

Please advise.

The bosses on the rear triangle can be used to mount a frame lock but I don’t think all frame locks will fit. Some use some kind of zip ties to fix the lock to the rear triangle.
Abus (see link below) that makes the lock for your battery has a key system where you can have the same key for several lock. Don’t know how you order in the US.
The frame locks from Abus all have a lower security level than their Bordo folding locks and U-locks. It’s their own product rating system, not a universal rating.
A frame lock is convenient if you park your bike within sight but the obvious disadvantage is that the bike can be carried away if it’s not locked onto something.

You could use a wide frame lock from Abus, f.e. the "Shield Plus 5750L NR" like me on my Vado 4.0.
You could even combine this with an Abus "ADAPTOR CHAIN ACH 6KS/100 BK".
The 5750L Plus has a fairly high security level of 9 (maximum is 15) on the internal Abus scale. It is fine for short stops, and of convenient use.

I'm combining it with a folding lock Abus Bordo Granit XPlus 6500/110 SH (Level 15) and would not go for the shorter folding lock /85 as this is useless in many situations (you can't get around a lamp mast, tree ...). Mine is 2kg so I'm not using it all the time, but a combination of two different locks is wise in certain parking situations.

I bought a 2020 Vado 5.0 and an Abus Shield Plus 5750 and it didn't fit. The bosses on my seat stays are angled outwards slightly, and the screw holes can't align with them. Are the bosses on your Vado pointing straight forward?

Yes the mounting boses are too wide and angled to fit the abus 5650 locks. I got this lock because it can fit the larger 2.8 tyres and wheels my wife and i use for the trail rides. I made up an adapter plate to fit the lock as per image. Worked very well. I also use the chain to secure the front wheel and a D lock.

Yes looked at that but couldn't get the height loe enough to fit my offroad wheels and tires.

I wish I had metal-working skills. I'm guessing you had to make some accommodation for the seatstay screws not being perpendicular to the face of the plate? Did you use countersunk bolts? Are the Vado seatstay bosses standard M5 threaded? I tried putting an M5 bolt into one of them and it screwed in, but it seemed to have a bit of play like the threads were not wide enough or something.

Did you then tap screw threads into the adaptor to screw the frame lock directly to it, or did you use smooth holes and put a nut on the bolt on the other side?

Its handy having a CnC machine at work!
Yes the holes were countersunk with M5 screws to the frame. Mine screws fitted fine with no play. The two holes to mount the lock are 5mm tapped in the plate. Worked really well.

Not exacly straight forward but straight enough to get the screws in and screw them down in my 2018 Vado 4.0.
The 5750L was a little bit too wide but I could match it by angling the 5750L a few degrees.
