TSDZ2b power setting problems

Hi,
I have just replaced my TSDZ2 with the TSDZ2b and all its paraphernalia.
Easy upgrade, but have problems with the power settings.

Using the TFT 860C display I tried to change the assistance settings from 3-steps
to 9-steps (the advertising and manual all talk about 9 levels of assistance).
But the settings process stops at 5-steps.

When I try the bike out the first three steps provide no discernible assistance at all.
Step-4 gives a little, but less even than the first step on the old VLCD5 display.
Step-5 provides about as much as a half-way point between step-1 and step-2 on the
old display.
I assume the higher levels of assistance are set for steps 6 to 9, but they seem to be
inaccessible.

So does anyone know why I can only get 5 levels of assistance; and if I am really
restricted to 5-steps, how do I re-map the settings?
I hope someone can help - I live in a hilly town and need the extra boost.

Sorry, no help to offer, just encouragement to keep trying. If the 9-step option on your bike is anything like the one on my 500W Surface 604 torque-sensing hub-drive commuter, I think you'll like it.

My level 1/9 is a good bit less powerful than 1/5, while 9/9 is the same as 5/5, as expected. The steps feel evenly spaced in between. I welcome this, as level 1/9 is often all the help I want.

Level 1/5 on my neighbor's Aventon Level.2, a very similar bike, is roughly level 3/9 on mine. His feels a little too abrupt at 1/5 for my taste.

Really like the fine control with 9 steps.

Thanks Jeremy,
I also have a Focus Paralane2 using the Fazua motor. Unfortunately the battery just died and there are none to be had in Australia - next shipment due end of November.
Hence my reason for resurrecting my touring bike which I built up several years ago for a major trip of around 3,000km and so overloaded the bike that the motor was in dire straits by the end.
Cheers
Adrian

I'm not familiar with the 860C on TSDZ2B, except on the Bafang BBS02 where it's very good. This would have to be flashed to work specifically with the TSDZ2. Maybe you're looking at a Bafang display manual?

I recall the 860 display does show watts. Are you seeing any power readings comparable to what the motor puts out?

What was wrong with the TSDZ2? They use the same controller. but the gear assembly is different. Not very expensive to replace the electronics or gears, before the US-Chima tariff wars,

I own both a TSDZ2 and TSDZ2B conversion. I found the TSDZ2 pretty weak and not giving enough assist for my pedaling, so I switched to OSF firmware with the VLDC5. It was good enough that I bought a TSDZ2B later, which I also loaded with OSF firmware, We're at 4300 miles on both bikes now,

Sorry, I don't have any help to offer regarding your TSDZ2 but consider doing a trip report with pictures or if you have posted a report on another forum please post a link.

I do have two TSDZ2 (not "B") and find it interesting that people post various issues regarding performance and need for "OSF" firmware. I've had no need for any changes on my 500w and 750w versions. The seller might have already made improvements as I seem to recall that he indicated that he programmed them himself.
